Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range for this position is a nationwide market range and reflects salaries across the country. The actual salary will depend on factors such as the scope, complexity, and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials, and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. Employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentives as part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program.

$96,400.00 - $159,100.00

What Is the Opportunity?

Travelers is seeking a Software Engineer I to join our organization as we grow and transform our Technology landscape. The individual will complete intermediate end-to-end engineering tasks for specific system assignments, including developing, analyzing, configuring, testing, debugging, troubleshooting, documenting, health monitoring/alerting, and implementing based on user or system design specifications. They will also participate in troubleshooting, impact analysis, and escalation as needed.

What Will You Do?

• Perform analysis, design, development, and configuration functions, and define technical requirements for assignments of intermediate complexity.
• Participate with the team to analyze, assess, and resolve defects and incidents of intermediate complexity, escalating appropriately.
• Work within team guidelines to independently tackle well-scoped problems.
• Seek opportunities to expand technical knowledge and capabilities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

• Three years of programming/development experience preferred.
• Experience with React, JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, AWS, EKS, Terraform, HashiCorp Vault, OKTA, Python, Autosys, SQL is ideal.
• Delivery skills: ability to deliver work steadily, decompose work into small releases, and contribute to discussions on tradeoffs and negotiations.
• Domain expertise: understanding of technical concepts, willingness to cooperate, and in-depth knowledge of relevant systems.
• Problem-solving skills: debugging, identifying issues in unfamiliar code, recognizing and solving repetitive problems, and learning from mistakes.
• Strong communication skills: ability to interact clearly, document effectively, collaborate, and ask clarifying questions.
• Leadership skills: self-motivated with a proven track record of personal growth.

What Is a Must Have?

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
• One year of programming/development experience.
