For nearly a century, Simmonds Precision has been helping shape the future of flight from our home in Vergennes, Vermont. Today, our technologies are trusted across hundreds of commercial and military aircraft platforms worldwide, helping aircraft operate safely, reliably, and efficiently.

At Simmonds Precision, we design and manufacture advanced sensing, monitoring, fuel management, and precision control technologies that solve some of aerospace’s most demanding challenges. Behind every solution is a team of talented people who bring together engineering expertise, advanced manufacturing, craftsmanship, and a drive to innovate.

When you join Simmonds Precision, you’re not just taking the next step in your career, you’re contributing to technology that takes flight around the world. Whether your expertise is in engineering, manufacturing, quality, operations, or business support, there’s an opportunity to make your mark.

Find your next opportunity where precision meets possibility—and build your career in aerospace with Simmonds Precision.

What You Will Do

As a Software Engineer, you will leverage cutting-edge development workflows to build the precise, intelligent, and secure software powering tomorrow’s Monitoring and Actuation Systems. While ensuring the reliability of our existing production software, you will actively innovate—engineering next-generation, mission-critical solutions trusted in the world’s most demanding environments.

Your focus will center on two core product lines:

  • Health Usage Monitoring Systems (HUMS): Empowering aircraft operators to analyze fleet conditions, predict emerging mechanical anomalies early, and optimize maintenance schedules with high accuracy and confidence.
  • Aircraft Actuation Systems: Transforming control inputs into deterministic, high-precision movement across flight control surfaces. You will support varied rotary/linear architectures, AC/DC power frameworks, and fly-by-wire system compliance.

You will join our Next Generation Engineering Team—a collaborative unit of innovators and aviation enthusiasts redefining modern HUMS and actuation technologies. We balance deep technical rigor with a dynamic, fast-iterating startup energy. This is an environment built for hands‑on experimentation with cutting‑edge tools to shape the future.

What You Will Learn
  • Develop and optimize embedded flight-software for safety-critical systems used in commercial aircraft and military platforms.
  • Write high-performance, deterministic code and conduct debugging and validation using simulation tools.
  • Collaborate closely with systems engineers, hardware teams to deliver integrated solutions that meet stringent aviation safety, performance, and certification requirements.
  • Implement and support AI-assisted onboard features.
  • Conduct debugging and validation using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, hardware debuggers, simulation and hardware‑in‑the‑loop (HIL) environments.
  • Ensure compliance with aviation safety standards such as DO-178, and adherence to secure coding and cyber‑resilience practices.
  • Participate in flight‑test operations, lab testing, and simulation runs to evaluate system performance under real‑world and mission‑critical conditions.
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) major obtained by start date.
  • Experience may be obtained through on‑the‑job experience, research, coursework, or projects.
Qualifications We Prefer
  • Prior internship, co‑op, or work experience.
  • An emphasis on strong collaboration and communication skills, with a desire to achieve world class abilities to work within dynamic teams to solve challenging problems.
  • Basic understanding of aircraft operational fundamentals is highly desirable, as the role involves executing flight test scenarios to validate system functionality and performance. This hands‑on work will enable the candidate to directly contribute to the advancement of next‑generation aerospace technologies.
Why Join Simmonds Precision?

At Simmonds Precision, you won’t just be filling a position, you'll be developing skills in an industry where precision matters. You'll have the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals, gain hands‑on manufacturing experience, and contribute to products used in demanding aerospace applications.
