Software Engineer, Hockey Research & Development

Join to apply for the Software Engineer, Hockey Research & Development role at Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are excited to offer a Hockey Research & Development Software Engineer position. As a full stack developer, you will join a small team to create data and software platforms that support hockey operations. Your responsibilities include contributing to hockey applications and data warehouse development, playing a key role in evolving our technology and team culture.

We seek a candidate passionate about hockey with a strong desire to contribute. High performers will be capable of working independently and collaboratively, possess an innovative mindset, and aim for a career in professional sports, contributing to our goal of winning Stanley Cup championships.

Responsibilities
  • Architect and develop our primary web application following best practices.
  • Build and maintain our data pipeline to ensure accurate and timely information for hockey operations.
  • Create visualizations and UI concepts for responsive, user-friendly interfaces across devices.
  • Implement standards and testing practices to ensure high code quality.
  • Assist in building GCP cloud infrastructure to ensure uptime, reliability, and responsiveness.
Qualifications
  • Experience in building dynamic web experiences with Javascript, especially Vue.js, D3, or Three.js, and CSS frameworks like Tailwind, Bootstrap, or Material.
  • Proficiency in Python for application middleware, data libraries, and testing frameworks.
  • Strong SQL skills, preferably with BigQuery and Postgres.
  • Familiarity with GCP products such as GKE, BigQuery, Cloud Build, or similar AWS/Azure services.
  • Strong technical opinions, appreciation for process, diligent code reviews, and flexibility.
  • High standards for code quality, UI design, and team collaboration.
  • Personal skills that foster a collaborative and responsive team environment.
  • Enthusiasm for hockey and contributing to our pursuit of the Stanley Cup.
  • This position is eligible for remote work.
