Job summary

Exa in San Francisco is seeking a Full Stack Engineer to help build their next-gen search engine. You'll work on developer dashboards, APIs, and SDKs, overseeing the product lifecycle from design to deployment.

The ideal candidate will be fluent in TypeScript and have experience in backend API design, with responsibilities including building onboarding flows for developers and architecting the API gateway. Job description

We raised a $250M Series C to build the search engine for AIs. Led by a16z, with existing investors Benchmark, Lightspeed, and YC doubling down, the round brings Exa's valuation to $2.2 billion.

Exa is building a search engine from scratch to serve every AI agent. We build massive-scale infrastructure to crawl the web, train state-of-the-art embedding models to process it, and design super high-performing vector databases in Rust to search over it. If you like compute, we also own a $5M H200 GPU cluster (and soon 5x'ing that) and regularly spin up batch jobs with tens of thousands of machines.

As a Full Stack Engineer at Exa, you'll work on everything developers and agents touch when they use our product. That includes our developer dashboard, APIs, SDKs, and the rest of our developer platform.

Who You Are

• You're a strong generalist engineer, comfortable owning the product lifecycle from design to deploy.
• You're fluent in TypeScript, with a strong eye for front-end design, and comfortable learning new tools and technology as the work calls for it.
• You've designed and maintained backend APIs that real users and customers depend on.
• You've shipped products for LLMs, AI agents, or other systems used by many people.
• You care about the problem of finding high quality information and recognize how important this is for the world.

What You Could Do

• Build agentic onboarding flows that quickly get developers (and their agents) from sign-up to first integration.
• Shape the Exa API and SDKs into the cleanest, most ergonomic agentic search platform in the ecosystem.
• Architect the API gateway that every Exa request flows through.
• Build account, billing, permissions, and provisioning surfaces our enterprise customers need.
