Software Engineer (Full Stack)

NYC Data Science Innovation Center – Investment Management

They are creating groundbreaking, next-generation Data Science, Predictive Analytics and Machine Learning applications for n-tier cloud architectures employing new paradigms such as cloud computing, lightweight microservices and data sciences! You will play a key role in helping build the future of financial services, working together with business partners to create client experiences that are changing the way people invest.

You will be working on developing Object-Oriented Technologies for the firm's next generation data distribution and analytics platform, with the aim to seamlessly deliver real-time and on-demand investment data to a global network of distributed trading and research platforms.

J Harlan Group is currently conducting a search for a Software Engineer (Full Stack) at a prominent Investment Manager in their NYC Data Science Technology Development Center (TDC). This role is eligible for remote work up to three days a week.

The TDC is developing the firm's next-generation applications for n-tier cloud architectures employing new paradigms such as cloud computing, lightweight microservices, data sciences and distributed and non-relational databases to deliver elastically scalable, globally distributed and highly resilient software services.

They’re looking for experienced Software Developers / Engineers to join their new Technology Development Center in Manhattan. They want technologists with a fresh perspective who are passionate about solving complex business, data, and technical challenges. You’ll work with smart, talented people across our business to create groundbreaking, next-generation applications for n-tier cloud architectures. You’ll be involved, hands-on, through the entire development cycle. And you’ll redefine the way our traders, portfolio managers and analysts serve our clients.

This is a “hands-on”, full development lifecycle role that provides an opportunity to solve complex business, data, and technical challenges. As a key contributor throughout the entire development cycle, you will be required to think outside the box and bring cutting edge technology in-house.

Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to all parts of the SDLC, e.g., design, development, and testing
  • Develops technical solutions following standard methodologies with some guidance from senior engineers
  • Practices automated testing and tests your work in an automated and repeatable way
  • Identifies and remediates technical debt
  • Works with existing data models and schemas and suggests changes and improvements where necessary
  • Demonstrates strong logic and reasoning capabilities
  • Delivers on well-specified work items
  • Uses questions and proposals to clarify requirements when unclear

Required Technical Experience:

  • Professional Object-Oriented development experience - 2+ Years of professional development experience with an Object-Oriented language (Java, Python, C#)
  • Experience with React and/or Angular helpful
  • Experience with automated delivery pipelines, agile delivery and test-driven development
  • In-depth knowledge of software design patterns
  • Experience with AI and Machine Learning application development preferred
  • Solid understanding of cloud native architectures (AWS, etc.) for containerized microservices and real-time systems

Required Domain Experience and Soft Skills:

  • Experience working in a dynamic, fast-paced, Agile team environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to establish and maintain a close working relationship with quantitative researchers, traders and senior business leaders
  • Confident communicator: able to argue a point concisely and deal positively with conflicting views
  • Enthusiasm for learning & results oriented
  • A solid understanding of financial markets and instruments is a plus

Required Education:

Strong academic record and a BA/BS degree with high mathematical and computing content (e.g. Computer Science or Engineering or a related technical field).

SALARY RANGE: The salary range is $118,000 - $202,000 plus employees may also be eligible for annual discretionary incentive compensation. Actual compensation within that range will be dependent upon the individual's skills, experience, qualifications, location, and applicable laws.

Work Flexibility: This role is eligible for remote work up to three days a week.
