Fitch Ratings is seeking a seasoned Software Engineer to join our Ratings Technology team in Chicago. You will design and build full-stack applications using Python and React, working with product managers and stakeholders to deliver scalable, reliable software.

You will contribute to backend services and APIs, craft rich frontend experiences with TypeScript, and advance architectural design for performance and security.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• 12+ years of hands-on Python development with frameworks like FastAPI, Flask, Django.
• 5+ years of hands-on React experience in production environments.
• Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs.
• Strong fundamentals in OO design, data structures, algorithms, and scalable architectures.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies and modern software delivery practices.
• AI fluency with OpenAI/AWS Bedrock/LLMs and prompt engineering concepts.

As a member of our Ratings Technology team, you will work on modern full-stack applications that support core business capabilities, partnering closely with engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders. We are looking for a highly experienced software engineer with deep expertise in Python and React , strong software engineering fundamentals, and a passion for building scalable, reliable, and user-focused solutions.

What You Need to Have:

• 12+ years of professional software engineering experience building and supporting enterprise-grade applications.
• 12+ years of hands‑on Python development experience , building scalable backend services, APIs, and data-driven applications using frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, Django, or similar.
• 5+ years of hands‑on React experience developing modern, responsive, and scalable web applications in production environments.
• Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and integrating with third-party services.
• Solid understanding of software design principles, design patterns, object-oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, and scalable system architecture.
• Experience working with relational and NoSQL databases.
• Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and modern software delivery practices
• AI Fluency - Experience or familiarity with integrating AI-powered capabilities into software applications, including LLM APIs such as OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, Anthropic, or similar platforms. Understanding of concepts such as prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), AI agents, and responsible AI practices, with the ability to evaluate and apply AI technologies to solve real business problems.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.

• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation)
• Familiarity with Apache Spark or other distributed processing frameworks
• Experience with dbt, Airflow, or similar data pipeline orchestration tools
• Knowledge of MLOps practices and model deployment
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
• Familiarity with observability tools (e.g., Datadog, Grafana, OpenTelemetry)
• Familiarity with data visualization tools like Qlik Sense, Power BI, Amazon Quicksight

FOR TORONTO ROLES ONLY: Expected base pay rates for the role will be between 140,000 USD an 170,000 USD. Actual salaries will be determined on an individualized basis and may vary based on factors including but not limited to education, training, experience, past performance, and other job-related factors. Base pay is one part of Fitch’s total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, long-term incentives, and other benefits sponsored by Fitch.
