The COMET contract manages ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. These tasks support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs.

This position provides software development support to the Command & Control Systems (C&C) directorate under the COMET contract at NASA KSC. The C&C organization handles the design, development, testing, and operations of control systems within the Launch Control Center (LCC). You will work in a dynamic team environment, responsible for software design, implementation, testing, user support, maintenance, and operations of systems supporting the LCC. You will be part of the System Monitoring and Control (SMC) team working on analysis, design, development, documentation, testing, deployment, and maintenance of software for the Launch Control System. Collaboration with other developers, testers, analysts, architects, and engineers is essential.

Responsibilities
  • Explore new ideas and develop solutions for software delivery pipeline challenges.
  • Communicate concepts, ideas, and accomplishments clearly to peers and leadership.
  • Use CMMI compliant processes to develop, modify, and maintain software source code and applications.
  • Prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced environment with varying requirements and deadlines.
  • Produce consistent positive results.
  • Perform other duties to support team success.
Qualifications - External
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in Engineering or a related technical field from an accredited institution.
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following: C++, Java, Bash, Python.
  • Ability to perform software development following design, coding standards, and configuration management processes.
  • Support technical reviews of code, test, and design.
  • Support technical meetings involving engineers, stakeholders, vendors, or management.
  • Provide regular status updates.
  • Think innovatively, challenge the status quo, and seek improvements.
  • Evaluate safety-critical software for safety as an independent component and as part of the overall system. Develop Software Safety Plans.
  • Experience with tools like Opmantek, Jenkins, Code Collaborator, JAMA, Clear Quest is desirable.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions
Physical Requirements
  • Climb stairs and ladders, wear protective equipment, and work in confined spaces.
Work Environment
  • Work inside and outside at the test complex, with travel to different site areas.
Equipment and Machines
  • Operate heavy equipment and computer peripherals.
Attendance
  • Typically 8-hour shifts, 5 days a week, with occasional overtime.
Other Essential Functions
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal permanent residency required.
  • Clear communication and teamwork skills essential.
  • Government security clearance may be required.
  • Willingness to travel and adhere to safety and dress standards.
  • Pass a background check and drug test.
