Position: Senior Database Developer

Location: Sterling Virginia OR State College Pennsylvania (On-site)

Project Duration: 12 months w/ possibility of extension or conversion

Rate: Negotiable Based on Experience

**Security Clearance: Active TS/SCI required**

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Database Developer to join our team. In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain advanced relational databases, with a focus on AWS Aurora PostgreSQL and PostGIS. You’ll play a critical role in ensuring secure, high-performance data access and integration across complex systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain relational databases using AWS Aurora PostgreSQL
  • Create and optimize PostGIS-enabled schemas and geo-temporal queries for high-speed data retrieval
  • Define and implement complex security protocols for data filtering and redaction
  • Translate data models into normalized, relational schemas aligned with application needs
  • Collaborate with developers to integrate and optimize database access via JPA/Hibernate
  • Tune performance through advanced indexing, partitioning, and query optimization
  • Manage database environments, including schema version control and migration support
  • Establish secure, scalable structures to support evolving development needs

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Database Administration
  • Proficiency in RDBMS (e.g., Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL) and SQL scripting
  • Active TS/SCI clearance (U.S. citizenship required)
  • CompTIA Security+ certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing and migrating database schemas
  • Expertise in AWS Aurora PostgreSQL setup and optimization
  • Strong background in relational data modeling and schema versioning
  • Knowledge of Row-Level Security (RLS), session/permissions management, and column/cell-level security
  • Advanced skills in query optimization, indexing, and partitioning
  • Proficiency with PostGIS and optimizing geo-temporal queries
  • Experience with Java Persistence (JPA) and Hibernate integration
  • Ability to manage operational databases under active development
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD, and source control systems (e.g., Git, Bitbucket)
  • Experience supporting classified or government systems with strict security requirements
  • Background in Java-based ecosystems and microservice architecture
