Job description

Job Description Summary

Join an exciting software development team building next-generation embedded platforms for medical devices used in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Labor & Delivery environments. As a Software Engineer, you will help establish the low-level software foundation that enables application, algorithm, connectivity, and feature teams to build efficiently on a reliable, embedded platform.

About Us

The Maternal Infant Care team is developing the future of medical technology for Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Labor & Delivery environments. Our mission is to help send mothers and infants home healthy by building safe, reliable, and connected medical devices that support critical clinical care.

Job Description Roles and Responsibilities

Own and develop low-level embedded software and reusable platform capabilities for next-generation medical devices, including operating system configuration, board support packages, device drivers, boot flows, hardware abstraction layers, and shared software infrastructure. Serve as a platform enabler by creating clean, maintainable foundations that allow application, algorithm, connectivity, and feature teams to develop efficiently within a shared code base. Collaborate with software architects, electrical engineers, systems engineers, quality, program, and platform teams to translate system architecture and product requirements into well-designed embedded software components. Support hardware-software integration, board bring-up, debugging, and performance optimization across microprocessor, microcontroller, sensor, and connected-device environments. Design and implement software aligned with security, reliability, performance, scalability, maintainability, and medical device design-control expectations. Participate in technical design reviews, code reviews, integration reviews, risk-based engineering discussions, static analysis, unit testing, and disciplined issue resolution to deliver integrated software products with uncompromised quality. Work in a fast-paced AI infused Agile/Scrum environment while researching, evaluating, and applying new tools, technologies, automation approaches, and AI-assisted development practices to improve engineering productivity and software quality.

Qualifications & Essential Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related STEM discipline and a minimum of 2 years of work experience as a software engineer in a product development team. Experience developing embedded software using C, C++, Python, or similar languages. Experience with embedded Linux, Unix/Linux programming, operating system concepts, STLinux or similar embedded Linux distributions, RTOS development, and low-level platform development. Experience with microcontrollers, microprocessors, board-level interfaces, real-time constraints, scheduling, timing behavior, resource management, deterministic system performance, and hardware-software integration. Strong understanding of object-oriented design, design patterns, algorithms, data structures, and maintainable software architecture.
