About the team and the role:

eBay is seeking a Senior Engineer for their Cloud Databases and Storage organization, which builds and runs a petabyte-scale core data platform that powers large-scale database, storage, caching, and media infrastructure. This position offers the opportunity to architect, build, and operate the next-generation distributed database and storage platform that supports critical systems in eBay’s global ecommerce business. You will be responsible for scaling eBay’s core data infrastructure by working closely with engineers, customers, business partners, and product managers.

What you will accomplish:

• You will build and manage massively scalable database and storage systems for eBay.
• As a self-motivated and enthusiastic technical leader, you will collaborate with peers to design data infrastructure using your expertise in distributed systems, storage, and large-scale databases.
• You will work in an agile environment, focusing on problem-solving and engineering precision, assessing technology problems, designing solutions, and driving implementation.
• You will collaborate with Architects, Engineering leaders, and Product Managers to develop solutions that meet standards and expectations.
• You will guide junior and senior engineers, advocating for high standards in building scalable, high-speed distributed systems.
• You will contribute to all stages of product development, including design, testing, release, and maintenance.
• You will bring innovative ideas to adapt to technological developments and industry best practices to create a lasting impact.

What you will bring:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science with 8+ years of experience, or MS with 6+ years of experience in building large-scale distributed systems.
• Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals, data structures, and algorithms.
• Experience in architecting and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, distributed software systems, storage, and databases.
• Hands-on expertise in Object-Oriented Design, Distributed Programming, and programming in C++, Java, and various database systems (NoSQL and relational).
• Ability to lead architecture discussions, produce design documentation, and participate in reviews.
• Commitment to code quality, maintainability, and continuous improvement of architecture and tech stack.
• Willingness to share support responsibilities for a 24x7 operational environment.
