Robinhood is building out cryptographic services and an in-house card-processing platform to securely handle sensitive financial data. The team values engineers who are eager to learn security concepts and can contribute across software, infrastructure, and operations.

This role is based in Bellevue, WA and Menlo Park, CA with in-person attendance required at least 3 days per week. You’ll design, build, and operate production services, work on encryption/decryption tooling, and collaborate

About the Role & Team

The Cryptographic Services & Infrastructure team secures and manages cryptographic keys and enables Robinhood engineering teams to safely leverage core capabilities like encryption and decryption.

Join a high-impact team responsible for protecting some of Robinhood's most sensitive financial and customer data! In this role, you will help build and operationalize Robinhood's new in-house card-processing service - a critical initiative that brings core capabilities in-house and offers meaningful ownership across software, infrastructure, security, and operations. While prior cryptography or security experience is highly preferred, we are excited to empower strong engineers with a passion for security to learn and grow their skills on the job.

This role is based in our Bellevue, WA and Menlo Park, CA offices, with in-person attendance expected at least 3 days per week.

What you'll do day-to-day

• Design, build, and maintain production services and infrastructure supporting key management, encryption, and decryption functions.
• Help architect, launch, and scale Robinhood’s new in-house card-processing environment to protect sensitive card, financial, and tax-related data.
• Write clean, maintainable production code and build operational tooling across software, infrastructure, and security controls.
• Collaborate with internal engineering teams to support migrations, drive adoption of shared cryptographic capabilities, and ensure safe system design.
• Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to maintain high availability, security, and operational reliability as processing volume grows.

What you bring

• Experience building, operating, or supporting production services, distributed systems, or infrastructure.
• Proficiency writing production code in at least one modern programming language (such as Python, Go, Java, C#, or C++) with a strong ability to reason about complex systems.
• Comfort working across multiple technical domains, including software development, infrastructure, and operational reliability.
• Clear and concise communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to explain technical decisions and proactively collaborate when facing challenges.
• Curiosity and willingness to learn security engineering principles and participate in a light on-call rotation.
• Prior experience in site reliability engineering (SRE), platform engineering, or cloud security.
• Familiarity with key management, secrets management, or core cryptographic concepts (such as symmetric encryption or public/private key pairs).
• Experience handling sensitive financial, payment, or card data in regulated environments.
• Background in supporting internal customer migrations or driving platform adoption across engineering teams.

In addition to the base pay range listed below, this role is also eligible for bonus opportunities + equity + benefits.

Base pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. The expected base pay range for this role is based on the location where the work will be performed and is aligned to one of 3 compensation zones. For other locations not listed, compensation can be discussed with your recruiter during the interview process.

$166,000 - $195,000 USD

Zone 2 (Denver, CO; Westlake, TX; Chicago, IL)

$147,000 - $172,000 USD

Zone 3 (Lake Mary, FL; Clearwater, FL; Gainesville, FL)

$130,000 - $152,000 USD
