Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC in Bellevue, WA and Menlo Park, CA is seeking a cryptographic services engineer to help design, build, and operate our new in‑house card‑processing service, protecting sensitive financial data.

You will work across software, infrastructure, and security, write production code, and participate in on‑call rotations while growing your security engineering skills on the job.

Qualifications

• Experience building, operating, or supporting production services, distributed systems, or infrastructure.
• Proficiency writing production code in at least one modern programming language (such as Python, Go, Java, C#, or C++) with a strong ability to reason about complex systems.
• Comfort working across multiple technical domains, including software development, infrastructure, and operational reliability.
• Clear and concise communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to explain technical decisions and proactively collaborate when facing challenges.
• Curiosity and willingness to learn security engineering principles and participate in a light on-call rotation.

About the Role & Team

The Cryptographic Services & Infrastructure team secures and manages cryptographic keys and enables the company engineering teams to safely leverage core capabilities like encryption and decryption.

Join a high-impact team responsible for protecting some of the company's most sensitive financial and customer data! In this role, you will help build and operationalize the company's new in-house card-processing service—a critical initiative that brings core capabilities in-house and offers meaningful ownership across software, infrastructure, security, and operations. While prior cryptography or security experience is highly preferred, we are excited to empower strong engineers with a passion for security to learn and grow their skills on the job.

This role is based in our Bellevue, WA and Menlo Park, CA offices, with in-person attendance expected at least 3 days per week.

What you'll do day-to-day

What you bring

• Experience handling sensitive financial, payment, or card data in regulated environments.
• Background in supporting internal customer migrations or driving platform adoption across engineering teams.

Base Pay Range

In addition to the base pay range listed below, this role is also eligible for bonus opportunities + equity + benefits.

Base pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. The expected base pay range for this role is based on the location where the work will be performed and is aligned to one of 3 compensation zones. For other locations not listed, compensation can be discussed with your recruiter during the interview process.

• Zone 1 (Menlo Park, CA; New York, NY; Bellevue, WA; Washington, DC): $166,000 — $195,000 USD
• Zone 2 (Denver, CO; Westlake, TX; Chicago, IL): $147,000 — $172,000 USD
• Zone 3 (Lake Mary, FL; Clearwater, FL; Gainesville, FL): $130,000 — $152,000 USD
