Job description

Security Engineering | Any location, United States

Coalition is the world's first Active Insurance provider designed to help prevent digital risk before it strikes. Founded in 2017, Coalition combines comprehensive insurance coverage and innovative cybersecurity tools to help businesses manage and mitigate potential cyberattacks.

Opportunities to make an impact with bold thinking are real—and happening daily at Coalition.

About the role

You’ll be part of the CoalitionRe Team. We’re a small, nimble team that builds software to support reinsurance efforts within Coalition.

We operate with short feedback loops, fast delivery times, and an eye toward practical solutions. This is a frontend position. The current frontend stack is based on htmx and python’s Flask on the backend. This position will require someone who is interested in being the authority for the frontend while showing an interest in learning our backend stack and transitioning to a full-stack engineer over time.

Our team is distributed with an emphasis on the Eastern Timezone in the US. We expect from you a disciplined, mature management of your workload, skilled written communication, and empathy for your team members and their perspectives. We have diverse opinions and expect you to voice yours. We disagree with each other regularly but prefer team success over “being right.” We expect the same from you.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to code: tested, maintainable, extensible, but pragmatic.
  • Extend and improve the existing CoalitionRe service.
  • Become the primary authority for frontend related development for the CoalitionRe service.
  • Interface with Product Team (e.g. to clarify requirements, provide feedback on required effort, alternative solutions, process improvements)
  • On-Call rotation participation (this means a regular expectation to respond to incidents outside of regular working hours – it happens rarely and we’d like to keep it that way.)
Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science or a related field with at least three years of work experience, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, and modern frontend frameworks (React or preferably htmx.)
  • Experience working closely with UI/UX designers and product management.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively convey engineering-related topics to team members – a lot of it asynchronously.
  • A collaborative and team-oriented mindset, capable of working effectively in a diverse and fast-paced environment.
  • Effective problem-solving skills to analyze and debug code.
  • Curiosity to learn and openness to feedback.
  • Autonomous and disciplined approach to work
Bonus Skills
  • Knowledge of backend and database technologies, particularly Python and Postgres
  • Any general knowledge of the insurance industry (particularly re-insurance.)
Compensation

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The US base salary for this position ranges from $99,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $130,000/year in our highest geographic market. Consistent with applicable laws, an employee's pay within this range is based on a number of factors, which include but are not limited to relevant education, skills, job-related knowledge, qualifications, work experience, credentials, and/or geographic location. Your recruiter can share more on target salary for your location during the interview process. Coalition, Inc. reserves the right to modify this range as needed.

  • 100% medical, dental and vision coverage
  • Flexible PTO policy
  • Annual home office stipend and WeWork access
  • Mental & physical health wellness programs (One Medical, Headspace, Wellhub, and more)!
  • Competitive compensation and opportunity for advancement
