Technology Service Corporation Defense Services is seeking a software engineer to contribute to distributed web and enterprise applications using C/C++ and Java. The role focuses on requirements analysis, design, coding, testing, and documentation, with work centered in Stafford, VA and travel up to 20%.

The candidate will join a mixed U.S. Government and contractor team in an Agile environment, with opportunities to learn new tools and technologies and to contribute to DoW related programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related STEM field is required; Master's is desirable.
• 1+ years of full-time professional programming in C/C++ (and Makefiles).
• Ability to work independently or in a team, with strong communication and analytical skills.
• Experience on Windows and Linux (RHEL) and familiarity with Linux CLI.
• Eligibility to obtain DoW IA certifications (e.g., CompTIA Security+).

Description

The prospective candidate will perform software development using C/C++ and Java technologies for distributed web and enterprise applications for DoW (Department of War) related projects. The prospective candidate will assist with requirements analysis, application design, code development, testing, code maintenance, software install and documentation. The work to be performed will primarily be done in Stafford, VA. Travel CONUS/OCONUS up to 20% may be required. The candidate will work as part of a mixed team of U.S. Government and contractor personnel in an Agile development environment.

Duties:

• Interface with stakeholders and users to gather and document requirements.
• Develop Java and C/C++ based software applications to meet requirements.
• Test, install, and maintain software on both windows and primarily Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) operating systems. Some work may be performed at remote sites.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or related STEM field is required. Master's degree is desirable. Professional experience, certifications, and demonstrated skills may be substituted for a formal degree.
• 1 or more years of full-time professional programming experience in C, C++, make files.
• Successful candidates must be well organized, a good communicator, and capable of multi-tasking; must possess strong analytical skills, and be able to work independently as well as in a team environment. Ability to learn new tools, technologies, and techniques.
• Ability to work on Windows and RHEL environments, including the Linux CLI.
• Ability to gain a DoW IA workforce certification (e.g., CompTIA Security+)

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience with build systems like CMake, Make, and debugging tools such as GDB
• Experience developing multi-threaded and distributed Java applications
• Experience developing thick client Java Swing applications
• Experience with Java Web application (e.g., Tomcat) servers or Java Applications servers (e.g. JBoss and/or Wildfly are highly desired)
• Relational database experience (SQL)
• Developing Java applications that use relational databases (JDBC, MySQL, PostgreSQL)
• Jakarta EE experience (JDBC, JNI, JNDI, JMS, Servlet/JSP, EJB/JPA)
• Java Spring experience
• Web service experience (e.g., RESTFul Web services)
• Substantial experience with delivering and maintaining software on Linux platforms
• Experience working with version control tools (Jira's Bamboo, Bitbucket, GIT)
• Web (Brower based) GUI front end development (HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Angular)

Security Clearance:

• TS/SCI clearance is required, must be a US Citizen
• Ability to pass a CI polygraph will be required
• Selected applicant will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet and maintain eligibility requirements associated with access to classified information.
