Job summary

SpecterOps is seeking a mid-level backend software engineer to join our Internal and Community Products team. You will design, develop, maintain, and document back-end components across Mythic and Ghostwriter, using Python, Go, Docker, and PostgreSQL.

The role involves building REST and GraphQL APIs, containerized services, and infrastructure automation with Ansible and Terraform. You will own tasks, review code, write tests, and contribute to open-source projects while collaborating with a

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of software design and application development experience.
  • Experience developing extensible APIs and highly maintainable services.
  • Professional experience with back-end languages such as Go, Python, or comparable languages.
  • Familiarity with relational database technologies such as PostgreSQL.
  • Experience working with Git and modern collaborative software development workflows.
  • Experience developing or supporting containerized applications using Docker or similar technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, support, and maintain back-end components of internal and open-source projects.
  • Develop and maintain REST and GraphQL APIs, services, command-line tools, data models, and integrations using languages such as Python and Go.
  • Work with containerized applications and supporting services using technologies such as Docker and Docker Compose.
  • Contribute to infrastructure automation and deployment tooling using technologies such as Ansible and Terraform.
  • Independently investigate technical problems, evaluate potential solutions, and drive work through implementation, testing, and release.
  • Write and maintain automated tests and participate in code reviews to improve software quality and maintainability.
  • Follow SpecterOps's code style guides and development processes.
  • Contribute to and maintain technical documentation for the components and features you develop.
  • Assist internal users encountering problems with project components.
  • Monitor and participate in external discussions, issues, and pull requests on GitHub related to our open-source projects.

# Software Engineer,Backend: Remote, United States: Oct 6, 2026: Oct 6, 2026## About the roleSpecterOps is searching for a mid-level back-end software engineer to join our Internal and Community Products team. This team develops and maintains internal and open-source projects such as Mythic and Ghostwriter. Because we believe in transparency and open source, we are committed to maintaining, growing, and supporting these projects for the benefit of the security community.As a Software Engineer, you will design, develop, maintain, and document back-end components across our projects using languages and technologies such as Python, Go, Docker, and PostgreSQL. T The work spans web applications, REST and GraphQL APIs, command-line tools, containerized services, and infrastructure automation, including technologies such as Ansible and Terraform.Our software plays an active role in authorized adversarial cybersecurity operations, including penetration testing and red team engagements. A security background is not required; we can teach the security concepts and workflows needed to work effectively on these projects.
