Job summary

Viasat is seeking an Early Career Software Engineer to help design and implement software for satellite ground and mobility systems. You will work on cloud infrastructure, scalable features, and API-driven services, with a focus on CI/CD and collaboration across a diverse team.

The role is site-based in the United States with relocation assistance and a Graduate Development Program to support your transition from university to professional life in a fast-paced, innovative environment.

Qualifications

• Completion of Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• 0-3 years of full-time, relevant industry experience.
• Proficiency coding in Python.
• Experience developing software in a Linux environment.

What you'll do

Our team is responsible for designing and implementing software solutions for satellite communication ground and mobility systems. This role offers opportunities to develop cloud infrastructure, compose scalable software, and build reliable systems that connect different software components. You will use your skills in software design, coding, continuous integration, and support to improve our products. The day-to-day

• Integrating innovative software features

Additional Details

• This position issite-based.Site‑basedemployees work 3+ days (60%+) per week from aViasatoffice or work location within a standardfive‑day work week. While this means employees are mostly and consistently onsite, Viasat embraces a flexible work environment. Relocation assistance is available pending eligibility.
• As an Early Career hire, you will participate in our Graduate Development Program during your first 12+ months at Viasat. This program is designed to support your transition from university to the workplace through dedicated mentorship, building relationships with your cohort of new grad hires, technical upskilling, soft skills development and more to ensure you’re set up for success as you begin your professional journey with Viasat.

What you'll need

• Education: Completion of Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field

What will help you on the job

• Experience with software feature design
• Experience with Databases (Postgres, MSSQL Server, etc.)
• Proficiency in refactoring and modularizing existing codebases
• Continuous Integration & Deployment (CI/CD) training or experience (e.g., Jenkins, Github Actions)
• Knowledge or experience with deployment tools such as Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, Azure, and/or Docker
• Experience troubleshooting technical issues with internal users
• Experience with containerization
• Experience with AI Development (e.g., Claude code, opencode, Copilot)
• Ability to prioritize competing tasks and requirements
• Experience with version control software (git)
• Experience with API design and Software Architecture
• Experience with GoLang, k8s, argocd

Salary range

$95,000.00 - $150,000.00 / annually.For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $118,000.00- $177,000.00/ annually
