Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a software developer to design and build applications across UX, business logic, database access and web services. The role analyzes requirements, participates in planning, and helps implement systems with attention to coding standards and ongoing learning.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent knowledge) in Computer Science, or related field.
  • Typically requires up to two years of related IT experience or equivalent developer training.
  • Basic understanding of current Web technologies and IDE tools to code, test, debug, document and implement software applications.
  • Experience or education in technologies for building, managing, and interacting with enterprise web applications and service-oriented architecture.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and develops applications using a variety of development languages, adhering to coding standards and development processes.
  • Analyzes system requirements and business processes; participates in business process reviews.
  • Participates in systems planning, scheduling and implementation; initiates corrective action to stay on schedule.
  • Designs and develops components for all application tiers including UX, business logic, database access, and web services.
  • Develops automation techniques to enable end-user content publishing and integration with content management systems.
  • Creates prototypes, codes, tests, debugs, documents and implements software applications.
  • Maintains links to external sites and ensures accuracy of internal links and up-to-date information.
  • Researches, evaluates and recommends new Internet tools and applications for assigned responsibilities.
  • Contributes to presentation and business-logic tiers of self-service, customer-service and enterprise systems.

Major Responsibilities
  • Designs and develops applications using a variety of development languages. Complies with coding standards and development processes to ensure quality.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
  • Basic understanding of current Web technologies and knowledge of Integrated Development Environments (IDE) tools to code, test, debug, document and implement software applications.
  • Object-oriented analysis, design and development skills.
  • Experience or education in technologies for building, managing, and interacting with enterprise web applications and service-oriented architecture.
  • Demonstrates continuous learning to remain current on evolving software development technologies and practices.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communications skills when consulting with internal and external partners.
  • Organizational and analytical skills. Ability to gather and organize data.
  • Problem and issue resolution skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks, set appropriate priorities and accomplish assignments in a thorough and timely manner.

  • Must have functional vision and ability to use a computer the majority of the day.
  • Position requires some travel. May be exposed to road and weather hazards.
  • Generally exposed to a normal office environment.
