Speechify’s text-to-speech products turn PDFs, books, Google Docs, news articles, and websites into audio to help users read faster, read more, and remember more. Our products include the iOS app, Android app, Mac app, Chrome extension, and Web app. Speechify has been recognized for its accessibility and design achievements and operates a 100% distributed team with a focus on impactful product development.

With the growth of our Android app, we are seeking a Senior Android Engineer to support the expanding user base and drive new projects forward. This role is ideal for someone who thinks strategically, thrives in fast-paced environments, and has a passion for crafting exceptional user experiences.

We are a flat organization that values leadership demonstrated through technical excellence and consistent, fast delivery. Strong work ethic, clear communication, and a results-driven mindset are essential. Our interview process includes several technical interviews intended to be completed within one week.

What You’ll Do
  • Own major features and collaborate with design to deliver high-quality Android features
  • Shape the future of the Android team
  • Own, maintain, and improve reliability metrics for key features
  • Participate in cross-team discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering
  • Review pull requests and support teammates
  • Handle critical issues and unexpected challenges
  • Own feature releases and provide nightly builds for QA
An Ideal Candidate Should Have
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience
  • Familiarity with Android components
  • Experience building or contributing to at least one Android app
  • Product design intuition and user empathy
  • Drive to advance Android UI/UX
  • Understanding of testing and how to write tests
  • Self-motivation to improve the app and codebase beyond the spec
  • Strong experience with Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Android Animations, Jetpack Navigation, JUnit
  • User-centered problem solving
  • Openness to continuous feedback from leaders
Bonus
  • Experience contributing to Android open source projects
  • Experience with iOS, Web, or NodeJS

The United States Based salary range for this role is: 140,000-200,000 USD/year + bonus + stock depending on experience
