Overview

With the growth of our Android app, being the most used text-to-speech app in the Play Store, we seek a Senior Android Engineer to support the growing user base and work on new projects to push us forward. We are a flat organization that values leadership shown through excellent technical skills and delivering results quickly. Strong work ethic, clear communication, and a focus on winning are paramount.

Speechify is a 100% distributed company with no office, employing teams globally to build text-to-speech products across iOS, Android, Mac, Chrome Extension, and Web.

What You’ll Do
  • Own major features and collaborate with design to deliver high-quality features inside the Android app
  • Shape the future of the Android team
  • Own, maintain, and improve reliability metrics for key features
  • Participate in cross-team discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering
  • Review pull requests and support teammates
  • Handle critical issues and adapt to unexpected challenges
  • Take ownership of feature releases and provide nightly builds for QA
An Ideal Candidate Should Have
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience
  • Familiarity with Android components
  • Experience building or contributing to at least one Android app
  • Product design intuition and user empathy
  • Drive to push the boundaries of Android UI/UX
  • Understanding of testing and approach to writing tests
  • Self-driven to improve the app and codebase beyond the spec
  • Strong experience with Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Android Animations, Jetpack Navigation, JUnit
  • User-centered problem solving
  • openness to feedback from leaders
Bonus
  • Experience contributing to open source Android projects

Salary: The United States-based salary range for this role is 140,000-200,000 USD/year + bonus + stock, depending on experience.
