Overview

With the growth of our Android app, being the most used text-to-speech app in the Play Store, we seek a Senior Android Engineer to support the new user base and work on exciting projects to push forward. We are a fast-paced, product-focused, and ambitious team that values strategic thinking, strong technical skills, and delivering great user experiences. Speechify is a 100% distributed company with no office, and our interview process involves several technical interviews completed within about a week.

What You’ll Do
  • Owning major features and collaborating with design to deliver high-quality features
  • Shape the future of our Android team
  • Own, maintain, and improve reliability metrics for key features
  • Participate in discussions across Product, Design, and Engineering
  • Review pull requests and support teammates
  • Handle critical issues and cope with unexpected challenges
  • Take ownership of feature releases and provide nightly builds for QA
An Ideal Candidate Should Have
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience
  • Familiarity with Android components
  • Experience building or contributing to at least one Android app
  • Product design intuition and user empathy
  • Drive to push the boundaries of Android UI/UX
  • Understanding of testing and how to approach writing tests
  • Self-drive to improve the app and codebase beyond the spec
  • Solid experience with Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android Animations, Jetpack Navigation, JUnit
  • User-oriented problem solving
  • Ability to receive and act on continuous feedback from leaders
Bonus
  • Experience contributing to Android open source projects
  • Experience with iOS, Web, or NodeJS

Salary

The United States based salary range for this role is: 140,000-200,000 USD/year + Bonus + Stock, depending on experience
