Overview

The mission of Speechify is to make sure that reading is never a barrier to learning.

Speechify’s text-to-speech products are used by millions to turn PDFs, books, Google Docs, news articles, and websites into audio. Our Android app is a key growth driver in the Play Store, and we are seeking a Senior Android Engineer to support our expanding user base and to work on exciting projects that push the product forward.

What You’ll Do
  • Own major features and collaborate with design to deliver high-quality features inside the app.
  • Shape the future of our Android team.
  • Own, maintain, and improve reliability metrics for key features.
  • Participate in cross-team discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering.
  • Review pull requests and support teammates.
  • Handle critical issues and unexpected challenges.
  • Own feature releases and provide nightly builds for the QA team.
An Ideal Candidate Should Have
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience.
  • Familiarity with Android components.
  • Experience building or contributing to at least one Android app.
  • Product design intuition and user empathy.
  • Drive to push the boundaries of Android UI/UX.
  • Understanding of testing and how to write tests.
  • Self-drive to improve the app and codebase beyond the spec.
  • Strong experience with Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android Animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit.
  • User-oriented problem solving and ability to work with feedback from leaders.
Bonus
  • Experience contributing to open source Android projects.
  • Experience with iOS, Web, or NodeJS.

The United States Based Salary range for this role is: 140,000-200,000 USD/Year + Bonus + Stock depending on experience
