Overview

With the growth of our Android app, being the most used text-to-speech app in the Play Store, we seek a Senior Android Engineer to support the expanding user base and work on new projects to push Speechify forward. This is a key role for someone who thinks strategically, enjoys fast-paced environments, and is passionate about making product decisions and delivering great user experiences.

Speechify is a 100% distributed company with a globally distributed team including frontend and backend engineers, AI researchers, and leaders from top tech companies. We value leadership demonstrated through technical excellence and results.

What You’ll Do
  • Own major features and collaborate with design to deliver high-quality Android features
  • Shape the future of our Android team
  • Own, maintain, and improve reliability metrics for key features
  • Participate in cross-functional discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering
  • Review pull requests and support teammates
  • Handle critical issues and unexpected challenges
  • Take ownership of feature releases and provide nightly builds for QA
An Ideal Candidate Should Have
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience
  • Familiarity with Android components
  • Experience building or contributing to at least one Android app
  • Product design intuition and user empathy
  • Drive to push the boundaries of Android UI/UX
  • Understanding of testing importance and approach
  • Self-drive to improve the app and codebase beyond the spec
  • Solid experience with Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Android Animations, Jetpack Navigation, JUnit tests
  • User-oriented problem solving
  • Ability to receive continuous feedback from leaders
Bonus
  • Experience contributing to open source Android projects

Salary (U.S. based): 140,000-200,000 USD per year + bonus + stock, depending on experience
