Overview

Speechify’s text-to-speech products turn PDFs, books, Google Docs, news articles, and websites into audio so people can read faster, read more, and remember more. With the growth of our Android app, we seek a Senior Android Engineer to support the expanding user base and work on new projects to push us forward. We value strategic thinkers who enjoy fast-paced environments and are passionate about making thoughtful product decisions and delivering high-quality user experiences.

What You’ll Do
  • Own major features and work closely with design to deliver high-quality features inside the Android app
  • Shape the future of our Android team
  • Own, maintain and improve reliability metrics for key features
  • Participate in cross-team discussions (Product, Design, Engineering)
  • Review pull requests and support teammates
  • Handle critical issues or unexpected challenges
  • Take ownership of feature releases and provide nightly builds for QA
An Ideal Candidate Should Have
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience
  • Familiarity with Android components
  • Experience building or contributing to at least one Android app
  • Product design intuition and user empathy
  • Drive to push the boundaries of Android UI/UX
  • Understanding of the importance of tests and how to write tests
  • Self-drive to improve the app and codebase beyond the spec
  • Rock solid experience with Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android Animations, Jetpack Navigation, JUnit
  • User-oriented problem solving
  • Ability to work with feedback from leaders
Bonus
  • Experience building, maintaining, or contributing to open source Android projects
  • Experience with iOS, Web, or NodeJS

Compensation

The United States Based salary range for this role is: 140,000-200,000 USD/Year + Bonus + Stock depending on experience
