Overview

Senior Android Engineer position for Speechify's Android core product based in Davenport, USA. Speechify’s mission is to ensure reading is not a barrier to learning. Our Android app is a key growth area with a strong user base in the Google Play Store.

Speechify operates in a 100% distributed setting with a flat organization. We value strategic thinking, fast-paced execution, strong technical skills, and a focus on delivering high-quality user experiences.

Our interview process involves several technical interviews and we aim to complete them within 1 week.

What You’ll Do
  • Owning major features and collaborating with design to deliver high-quality features inside the app
  • Shape the future of our Android team
  • Own, maintain, and improve reliability metrics for key features
  • Participate in discussions across Product, Design, and Engineering
  • Review pull requests and support teammates
  • Handle critical issues and unexpected challenges
  • Take ownership of feature releases and provide nightly builds for QA
An Ideal Candidate Should Have
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience
  • Familiarity with Android components
  • Experience building or contributing to at least one Android app
  • Product design intuition and user empathy
  • Desire to push the boundaries of Android UI/UX
  • Understanding of testing importance and testing strategies
  • Self-driven to improve the app and codebase beyond the spec
  • Strong Kotlin experience: Kotlin, Coroutines, Flow; familiarity with Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Android Animations, Jetpack Navigation, JUnit
  • User-oriented problem solving
  • Ability to receive continuous feedback from leaders
Bonus

United States Based Salary range: 140,000–200,000 USD/year + bonus + stock, depending on experience
