Software Engineer, Android Core Product - Clinton, USA

Speechify’s text-to-speech products turn PDFs, books, Google Docs, news articles, and websites into audio, helping users read faster, read more, and remember more. Our Android app is a key product in a family that includes iOS, Mac, Chrome Extension, and Web apps.

Overview

With the growth of our Android app as the most-used TTS app in the Play Store, we are seeking a Senior Android Engineer to support the expanding user base and to work on exciting new projects. This role is ideal for someone who thinks strategically, thrives in fast-paced environments, and has a track record of delivering high-quality user experiences.

We are a flat organization that values technical excellence, delivery speed, strong communication, and a habit of winning. Our interview process involves several technical interviews and aims to be completed within one week.

What You’ll Do
  • Own major features and work closely with design to deliver high-quality features inside the app
  • Shape the future of our Android team
  • Own, maintain, and improve reliability metrics for key features
  • Participate in cross-team discussions (Product, Design, Engineering)
  • Review pull requests and support teammates
  • Handle critical issues and unexpected challenges
  • Take ownership of feature releases and provide nightly builds for QA
An Ideal Candidate Should Have
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience
  • Familiarity with Android components
  • Experience building or contributing to at least one Android app
  • Product design intuition and user empathy
  • Drive to push Android UI/UX boundaries
  • Understanding of testing and how to approach writing tests
  • Self-drive to improve the app and codebase beyond the spec
  • Solid experience with Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Android Animations, Jetpack Navigation, JUnit
  • User-centered problem solving
  • Receptive to continuous feedback from leaders

Salary

The United States Based salary range for this role is: 140,000-200,000 USD/year + bonus + stock, depending on experience.
