Job summary

Lenovo in Chicago is seeking a Software Development Engineer for the Motorola Mobile Group. You will develop Android applications and framework components, integrating on-device AI and cloud-supported AI workflows across smartphones and wearables.

You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to push innovative mobile AI features and robust user experiences. The role emphasizes strong Kotlin/Java coding, Android Studio proficiency, and system-architecture insight, with hybrid work in Chicago

Qualifications

  • B.S./M.S in Computer Science/Engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years of Android software development experience.
  • Experience with Android applications and framework components to enhance UX.
  • Strong coding with Kotlin, Java, Android Studio; OOD, design patterns, data structures.

Responsibilities

  • Android application and framework development across subsystems of mobile devices.
  • Implement on-device AI frameworks and libraries for real-time AI processing.
  • Architect and maintain scalable off-device AI infrastructure in cloud environments.
  • Performance optimization of AI algorithms balancing resources and battery life.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers and engineers to implement AI features.
  • Stay updated on AI technologies and contribute to research initiatives.
  • Deliver features end-to-end and support them through product life cycle.

Being a part of Motorola’s Mobile Business Group, as a Software development Engineer, you'll play a pivotal role in leveraging cutting‑edge technologies and AI to craft unique innovations across a range of Motorola devices, including smartphones, wearables and innovative form factors. You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to design, develop, and create innovations that push the boundaries of what's possible in the mobile and wearable space. Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated self‑starter with experience in realizing the requirements into products. Strong desire for innovation, inter‑group coordination and teamwork skills are must.

Job responsibilities include the following.

  • Android Application and Framework development: Job responsibilities also include Android application/native software development across different subsystems of mobile device, requirements definition planning, design, test, debug and competitive analysis.
  • On-Device AI Integration: Implement on-device AI frameworks and libraries to enable real-time AI processing, ensuring efficient utilization of device resources.
  • Off-Device AI Infrastructure: Architect and maintain scalable infrastructure for off-device AI processing, leveraging cloud services and distributed computing techniques.
  • Performance Optimization: Optimize AI algorithms and workflows to achieve optimal performance on mobile devices while balancing computational resources and battery life.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to ideate and implement AI-powered features that enhance user experiences.
  • Research and Innovation: Stay updated with the latest advancements in AI technologies and contribute to research initiatives aimed at driving innovation in mobile AI solutions.
  • Candidate is responsible for requirements analysis, technical feasibility evaluation, development, delivery of the features and support until end of product life. Candidate is responsible for creating innovations on Motorola products, which help consumers worldwide enrich their digital lives. These are in the space of cool innovative software-hardware pairings.
Basic Requirements
  • B.S/M.S in the field of Computer Science/Engineering or related field
  • Experience of 3+ years in Android software development.
  • Experience with development of Android applications and enhancement of Android framework components, to enhance user experience.
  • Strong Coding knowledge with Kotlin, Java, Android Studio.
  • Well versed with Object-oriented Analysis Design, Design Patterns, Data Structures and Algorithms.
  • Strong problem analysis and debugging skills with passion for innovation and a drive to create impactful software solutions.
  • Key Performance Indicator(KPI) definition, analysis and improvement.
  • Proven track record in delivering consumer-focused software experiences.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, collaborative environment.
Preferred Requirements
  • Experience in publishing Android Apps to the Google Play Store
  • Working experience with Git/Jira
  • Knowledge of web services, REST APIs
  • Knowledge of interfacing with Google Cloud Services / Amazon Web services.
  • Knowledge of Windows based application development
  • Strong sense of System Architecture as it relates to mobile apps
  • Familiarity with AI/ML technologies and their application in software development.
  • Working experience on integration of LLMs to application
  • Working experience on technologies like Audio, Bluetooth, Wifi, Display, Camera, Audio, Modem

The base salary budgeted range for this position is $100k - 140K. Individuals may also be considered for bonus and/or commission.
