Healthcare Shares is an early-stage healthcare venture capital firm investing in innovative healthcare startups—including digital health, telemedicine, AI-enabled care delivery, and value-based care solutions. We work closely with physicians, healthcare executives, and founders who are building the next generation of healthcare technology.

As we expand our support services to portfolio companies, we are launching a software development shop to help digital health startups with their software engineering.

We are seeking a Software Engineer Advisor who can work with us on a part-time basis to provide technical expertise, help guide early product development, and advise our physician-founders as they build new digital health solutions.

This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys early-stage product work, collaborating with entrepreneurs, and shaping technology strategy across multiple startups.

What You’ll Do

Technical Advisory

• Act as a technical mentor and advisor to early-stage healthcare startups within our portfolio.
• Translate business and clinical requirements into technical recommendations and development plans.
• Review product concepts, architecture proposals, and codebases to ensure scalability, security, and reliability.

Product & Development Guidance

• Help founders scope MVPs, estimate development timelines, and prioritize technical features.
• Advise on selecting the right tech stack, development frameworks, and third-party integrations (APIs, EMRs, AI models, telemedicine tools, etc.).
• Provide feedback on UI/UX, workflow design, and digital health user experience.
• Guide startups on healthcare data requirements such as HIPAA, PHI protection, and best‑practice security standards.
• Recommend architecture patterns suitable for healthcare environments (audit logs, access controls, encryption, redundancy).

Collaboration With Healthcare Shares

• Work directly with our team of physicians, investors, and entrepreneurs to evaluate the technical feasibility of new concepts.
• Participate in due‑diligence discussions for potential investments and help assess the engineering strength of founding teams.
• Provide strategic insight on how to scale engineering resources—whether through hiring, outsourcing, or hybrid models.

Who You Are

• A strong software engineer with experience in web, mobile, or backend development, ideally including healthcare or other regulated industries.
• Comfortable advising on architecture, infrastructure, technical design, and development processes.
• Able to communicate clearly with non‑technical founders, especially physicians and clinical leaders.
• Excited by early‑stage environments, rapid prototyping, and helping founders turn ideas into working software.
• Interested in a flexible part‑time advisory role (5–10 hours per month), with opportunities to expand.
• Passionate about improving healthcare through technology.
