Job summary

Freedom is seeking a Software Engineer to modernize and sustain a portfolio of enterprise applications across Java, Spring Boot, JavaScript, Oracle, Linux, and Docker, delivering mission-critical capabilities that support government and industry partners.

You will collaborate with government customers and internal teams in an Agile environment, participate in planning and reviews, and learn new technologies as priorities evolve while maintaining strong production support and security.

Qualifications

  • TS/SCI with polygraph clearance required.
  • Bachelor's degree plus 6 years software development experience; 10 years may substitute.
  • Proven experience with Java development.
  • Experience with Oracle databases and SQL.
  • Experience with JavaScript framework such as Angular.
  • Experience developing on Linux and using Docker.
  • Must be able to work core hours 10AM-2PM.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and modernize backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
  • Develop and troubleshoot software with JavaScript and other languages as needed.
  • Work with Oracle databases and SQL for data access and optimization.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to deliver timely solutions.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and support deployments in Linux and Docker environments.

These mission-enabling applications support workforce management, finance, acquisitions, security processing, training, recruitment, logistics, program management, executive decision-making, and other critical business functions across multiple secure environments.

We are seeking a Software Engineer to support a diverse portfolio of enterprise applications delivering mission-critical capabilities across Infrastructure & Logistics (I&L). The selected candidate will play a key role supporting multiple Government Off-the-Shelf (GOTS) and Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) applications that enable enterprise business functions including asset management, facilities, transportation, and other corporate services.

This position is ideal for a hands-on engineer who enjoys working across multiple technologies and technical disciplines. The selected candidate will support a diverse portfolio of Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) and Government Off-the-Shelf (GOTS) enterprise applications utilizing both modern and legacy technology stacks. Responsibilities may include application development, system integration, application configuration and customization, cloud modernization, and production sustainment. Success in this role requires adaptability, strong technical problem-solving skills, and the ability to quickly learn new technologies as mission priorities evolve.

The ideal candidate is a versatile software developer with experience building and supporting enterprise applications. You should be comfortable working with Java, JavaScript, Oracle databases, and SQL, and have the aptitude and willingness to learn additional programming languages, frameworks, and technologies based on the needs of the products and applications you support.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Maintain, enhance, and modernize backend services developed using Java and Spring Boot.
  • Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot software using JavaScript and other programming languages and technologies as required by the product.
  • Work with Oracle databased and SQL to develop, troubleshoot, optimize and support application data and database interactions.
  • Learn and apply additional programming languages, frameworks, tools, and technologies as required by evolving application and mission needs.
  • Update software requirements, libraries, frameworks, and dependencies to ensure applications remain secure, supported, and maintainable.
  • Analyze and implement code changes resulting from dependency, framework, and technology upgrades.
  • Perform application maintenance activities, including troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, issue identification, and defect resolution.
  • Design and implement code enhancements and technical improvements based on customer, program, and operational requirements.
  • Collaborate with customers, software developers, systems engineers, and other stakeholders to deliver timely and effective solutions.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to spring planning, estimation, technical discussions, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Support application deployments, troubleshooting, and operational activities within Linux and Docker-based environments.
  • Contribute to the long-term stability, reliability, security, performance, and modernization of mission-critical enterprise applications.
  • Must be able to work between the core hours of 10AM-2PM. Exceptions will be considered on a case‑by‑case basis.

The estimated salary range for this position is between $150,000-$200,000 (annualized USD). This range reflects the typical pay for the role and is one part of the company's comprehensive compensation package. Actual salaries are influenced by several factors, such as location, the individual’s education, skills, experience, and competencies, as well as contract affordability and organizational needs.
