Job summary
Choice Hotels International is seeking a Software Engineer III – Mobile App in the Mobile Apps Engineering, Digital Experience team. You will own complex Android projects, help set technical direction, and mentor junior engineers to ensure scalable, high-quality apps for millions of guests.
This role reports to the Senior Engineering Manager, Mobile Apps. You will collaborate with Product, UX/UI, Analytics, and Backend teams to deliver features and drive CI/CD, observability, and reliability
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience developing Android applications in Java and Kotlin.
- Experience with Kotlin Multiplatform with JetPack Compose or Swift is a strong plus.
- 5+ years of experience with source control (Git preferred), branching strategies, and code collaboration workflows.
- Proven track record of shipping apps to Google Play Store and maintaining them in production.
- Experience developing and maintaining highly transactional, consumer-facing mobile apps.
- Proficient in writing and maintaining unit tests (JUnit, Mockito), UI tests (Espresso), and automated integration tests.
- Experience with build tools and CI/CD pipelines (Gradle, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Harness, or similar).
- Familiarity with RESTful APIs, GraphQL, and real-time communication (WebSockets, Firebase).
- Strong knowledge of mobile security best practices (encryption, secure storage, authentication).
- Competencies demonstrated: Technical Leadership, Problem Solving & Decision Quality, Collaboration & Communication.
Responsibilities
- Lead development of complex Android features and system components, balancing business needs with technical quality.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in Android development, providing guidance on best practices, code quality, performance, and scalability.
- Mentor and support junior engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and knowledge sharing.
- Proactively identify technical risks, architectural improvements, and opportunities for innovation in the mobile ecosystem.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners to deliver high-impact business features.
- Drive initiatives around CI/CD, automation, observability, and system reliability.
- Contribute to technical documentation, architecture discussions, and decision-making processes.
- Participate in production support and root cause analysis for critical issues, driving long-term improvements.
