Job summary

Choice Hotels International is seeking a Software Engineer III – Mobile App in the Mobile Apps Engineering, Digital Experience team. You will own complex Android projects, help set technical direction, and mentor junior engineers to ensure scalable, high-quality apps for millions of guests.

This role reports to the Senior Engineering Manager, Mobile Apps. You will collaborate with Product, UX/UI, Analytics, and Backend teams to deliver features and drive CI/CD, observability, and reliability

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience developing Android applications in Java and Kotlin.
  • Experience with Kotlin Multiplatform with JetPack Compose or Swift is a strong plus.
  • 5+ years of experience with source control (Git preferred), branching strategies, and code collaboration workflows.
  • Proven track record of shipping apps to Google Play Store and maintaining them in production.
  • Experience developing and maintaining highly transactional, consumer-facing mobile apps.
  • Proficient in writing and maintaining unit tests (JUnit, Mockito), UI tests (Espresso), and automated integration tests.
  • Experience with build tools and CI/CD pipelines (Gradle, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Harness, or similar).
  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs, GraphQL, and real-time communication (WebSockets, Firebase).
  • Strong knowledge of mobile security best practices (encryption, secure storage, authentication).
  • Competencies demonstrated: Technical Leadership, Problem Solving & Decision Quality, Collaboration & Communication.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert in Android development, providing guidance on best practices, code quality, performance, and scalability.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and knowledge sharing.
  • Proactively identify technical risks, architectural improvements, and opportunities for innovation in the mobile ecosystem.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners to deliver high-impact business features.
  • Drive initiatives around CI/CD, automation, observability, and system reliability.
  • Contribute to technical documentation, architecture discussions, and decision-making processes.
  • Participate in production support and root cause analysis for critical issues, driving long-term improvements.

Your Responsibilities

Your Experience, Skills & Competencies
