Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to support a leading aerospace and defense organization delivering advanced command-and-control capabilities for a mission-critical U.S. government defense program. Fully onsite in Colorado Springs, CO (NO FLEXIBILITY) and requires an active Top Secret clearance w/ SCI eligibility*

The Software Engineer will lead the design, development, integration, and sustainment of mission-critical software supporting space systems, ground segments, Command & Control (C2), mission planning, and real-time data processing. This role will drive full-lifecycle software development across API/backend architecture, front-end and geospatial applications, and Agile/DevSecOps environments, while providing technical leadership and ensuring solutions meet performance, security, quality, and customer requirements.

Responsibilities of the Software Enginee r:

• Lead full-lifecycle development of mission-critical software supporting space systems, ground segments, C2, mission planning, and real-time data processing, from requirements and architecture through deployment and sustainment.
• Architect and develop high-performance APIs, backend services, and system integrations connecting front-end and backend applications, with an emphasis on automation, security, reliability, and performance.
• Lead Agile/DevSecOps development and integration utilizing CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, builds, and deployment workflows.
• Develop modern, intuitive front-end applications and real-time 2D/3D geospatial visualizations, translating UI/UX designs into functional software.
• Lead code reviews, troubleshooting, testing, and performance optimization while driving software quality, security, development standards, and process improvements.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship across engineering teams, including R&D efforts, emerging technology implementation, and software/supplier performance.

Qualifications for the Software Engineer:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of software development supporting space/ground systems, including C2, mission planning, and real-time data processing.
• 5+ years of Python and 3+ years of JavaScript (Angular/JQuery), TypeScript, Java, and FastAPI development.
• 5+ years of full SDLC experience, including requirements, design, development, integration, testing, and deployment.
• 5+ years developing real-time 2D/3D geospatial UIs and working with PostgreSQL and SQL/NoSQL databases.
• 5+ years of software leadership on government programs, including Agile/DevSecOps environments and technical mentorship.
• Experience with API/backend architecture, CI/CD, automated testing/builds/deployments, and secure software development.
• Strong knowledge of C2, mission planning, ground systems, and mission-critical real-time applications; ability to obtain required program suitability.
• Active Top Secret (w/ SCI eligibility) or active TS/SCI clearance*
• IAT Level II certification (Sec+, CCNA, CySA+, etc...)
• Ability & Willingness to work fully onsite in Colorado Springs, CO.

Compensation for the Software Engineer:

• Salary Range: $170,000 - $210,000 *depending on experience*
