Job Description

As a Software Engineer you’ll be collaborating across departments to conceptualize, design, and implement innovative software solutions, owning the end-to-end responsibility to bring our product vision to life.

Additionally, you will engage closely with our product team to understand current user needs and anticipate future user needs, facilitating the seamless integration of user requirements into software solutions. Regular interaction with internal and external clients will be essential, as you spearhead user training sessions and gather invaluable feedback to continually refine and enhance our AI platform.

Rhombus embodies a start-up culture where we’ll be relying on you to bring your exceptional technical fluency to a small but mighty team of developers and engineers. Join us as we build game-changing analytical tools and shape the future of national security.

Ideal candidates will bring strong academic backgrounds, a tireless work ethic, and have a minimum of 5 years of development experience. Candidates with start-up experience (particularly in SaaS) and/or AI defense contracting is highly desired.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Lead the design and development of our product’s backend systems, and translate software requirements into stable, working, high-performance software. We’re seeking deeply experienced “doers’ who can switch seamlessly between individual contributors and team leaders.

  • Work closely with front-end developers to design and develop functional, performing, and complete APIs or GraphQL, and work tirelessly to define initiatives to improve quality and/or productivity, such as implementing automated test tools or new development methodologies within the team.
  • Lead code reviews and prepare (or guide) technical documentation, and ensure team members are contributing with speed and accuracy.
  • Define standards and processes to be followed during SDLC, and challenge ideas and opinions to avoid pitfalls and inefficient solutions!
  • Design and implement front-end components using React, ensuring a seamless user experience for web applications.
  • Develop back-end components using Node.js, writing scalable and efficient code.
  • Collaborate with the UX/UI team to implement user-friendly and visually appealing interfaces for web and mobile applications.
  • Write clean, scalable, and maintainable code using best practices and modern software development methodologies.
  • Implement automated testing and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) practices.
Qualifications:
  • Candidates holding either a bachelors or masters degree in Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or other related discipline are highly desired for this role.
  • 5+ years of experience in full-stack software development with a strong focus on Reach and Node.js.
  • Strong system design skills with experience architecting scalable, high-performance software systems.
  • Exceptional knowledge of PHP (Back end), MySQL, relational database design, and able to pull data from databases/design user tables.
  • Strong familiarity with HTML, CSS, JS, jQuery, version control systems (Git, SVN), and Linux based web hosting systems/command-line interfaces.
  • Previous experience with MVC (Model View Controller) design patterns, preferably CodeIgnitor (CI) PHP framework. The ability to get up to speed on CI framework is highly desired.
  • Awareness and understanding of product technical constraints, resources, scalability constraints, and security principles
  • Knowledge of AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes is a plus.
Personality Traits:
  • Has deep empathy for the end user and is excited to talk to customers to reach a deep understanding of requirements.
  • Able to take customer requests and feedback and turn them into technical requirements for our product roadmap.
  • Can verbalize several proposed solutions for a given problem. Earnest to collaborate, but defaults to action and can autonomously figure out the solution to a problem!
  • Is opinionated but enjoys the benefits of being a generalist and not tied down to a specific language, framework, or part of our codebase. Gets tasks done regardless of the conditions.
  • Are naturally curious and willing to pick up new skills/opportunities, including training junior members of the team.
  • Gets excited about solving interesting problems.
  • Is resourceful and resilient when faced with ambiguity and new challenges.
