Job summary

Sera Systems is seeking a Software Engineer in the United States to design, build, and maintain scalable Ruby on Rails applications. You’ll collaborate with product, design, and engineering teams to deliver customer‑facing features and reliable software across the full development lifecycle.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years of professional software experience, strong Rails skills, and familiarity with RESTful APIs, databases, and modern testing and CI/CD practices.

About the Role

We're looking for a Software Engineer to help design, build, and maintain the applications that power the Sera platform. You'll work closely with Product, Design, and Engineering to develop scalable solutions, deliver customer-facing features, and continuously improve the reliability and performance of our software.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving challenging problems, writing clean and maintainable code, and contributing throughout the entire software development lifecycle.

What You'll Do

• Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable, production-ready software that supports our customers and business goals.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, and fellow Engineers to translate business requirements into thoughtful technical solutions.
• Participate in architecture discussions and contribute ideas that improve scalability, performance, and maintainability.
• Write automated tests and participate in code reviews to ensure high-quality, reliable software.
• Troubleshoot production issues, resolve bugs, and proactively address technical debt.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, deployment processes, and platform reliability.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, estimation, and backlog refinement.
• Create and maintain technical documentation to support long-term development and knowledge sharing.
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools, including GitHub Copilot, Cursor, and Claude Code, to improve productivity while maintaining high standards for quality and security.
• Participate in an on-call rotation and support incident response when needed.

What We're Looking For

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience developing web applications using Ruby on Rails.
• Experience working with RESTful APIs and relational databases.
• Familiarity with automated testing frameworks and modern CI/CD practices.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Nice to Have

• Experience with PostgreSQL or MySQL.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Familiarity with GraphQL.
• Experience using GitHub Actions or similar CI/CD tools.
• Experience with testing frameworks such as Cypress, RSpec, Jest, or Selenium.
• Exposure to monitoring and observability platforms such as Datadog, New Relic, or Sentry.
