Job summary

Delivery Hero's efood is seeking a Software Engineer to join the Engineering Department and help deliver a seamless ordering experience. You will design and build backend services, own the full lifecycle of your software, and work on high-traffic systems. Collaboration with Product, Engineering and DevOps is essential.

Ideal candidates have 3–4 years in microservices, strong knowledge of Go/Java/Python, and experience with REST APIs and databases like MongoDB, Redis, and Postgres.

Qualifications

• University or postgraduate degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent.
• 3–4 years of microservices development experience.
• Excellent knowledge of Go, Java, Python, C++, C#; Go/Node/Python a plus.
• Knowledge of relational and non-relational DBs (MongoDB, Redis, Postgres).
• Familiarity with SOLID principles and design patterns.
• Experience consuming and building REST APIs.
• Strong attention to detail, analytical mindset and ownership.
• Fast learner with ability to adapt to new systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and build new backend services and features from start to production.
• Own the full lifecycle of the software you work on—from design to testing, deployment and monitoring.
• Work on high-traffic systems handling terabyte-scale data and thousands of RPS.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering and DevOps to turn requirements into shippable software.

What you'll do:

• Design and build new backend services and features, from initial implementation to production.

• Own the full lifecycle of the software you work on, including design, testing, deployment and monitoring.

• Work on systems that handle high traffic, up to thousand rps, terabyte-scale datasets, and learn how to design for reliability and scale.

• Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, and DevOps to turn requirements into working, shippable software.

• Contribute to a shared codebase by writing clear, tested code and improving existing solutions where needed.

• Learn continuously by experimenting with new tools, frameworks, and design and architecture patterns.

• University and/or Postgraduate Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent.

• At least 3-4 years of working experience in microservices development.

• Excellent knowledge on any mainstream programming language (such as Go, Java, Python, C++, C# etcr). Any relevant experience on Go, Node,or Python will be considered a plus.

• Knowledge of relational and non-relational database systems (e.g. MongoDB, Redis, Postgres).

• Familiarity with SOLID principles and software design patterns.

• Experience consuming and developing REST APIs.

• Excellent eye for detail and a self-motivated problem solver.

• Superior analytical skills and a strong sense of urgency and ownership in your work.

• Ability to get up to speed with new systems and concepts quickly.

• Keen to constantly learn and improve your own skills, and not afraid to jump into new things.

• Strong communication and collaboration skills (Greek and English is a must).

Nice to have:

• Familiarity with at least one major cloud services provider (experience with AWS is a plus).

• Experience working in an Agile team.

• Involvement with open source projects is a plus.
