Job summary

Belk is seeking a Software Engineer to write and maintain code, improve performance, and reduce technical debt in alignment with the product roadmap. You will participate in Agile planning, provide technical guidance, and monitor emerging trends to deliver scalable retail software solutions.

The role emphasizes development across platforms, strong Oracle Retail Xstore experience, and integration with payment systems. Collaboration with product management and cross-functional teams is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent
• 2–5 years hands-on Oracle Retail Xstore POS development, Oracle databases, Oracle EFTLink, and knowledge of RTLoggenerator and X environment
• 2–5 years experience with deal and promotion engines
• 2–5 years deep expertise in Java 11/J2EE, SQL databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL)
• 3–5 years Spring and related frameworks, and/or peripheral integrations like receipt printers, scanners, and PIN pads in XstorePOS
• 2–5 years proven experience with payment integrations (e.g., Verifone, ACI, Adyen, Worldpay)
• 2–3 years experience with Oracle Xmobile and Thin Client architectures, plus Android development in a retail domain
• Experience realizing applications from conception and design to implementation and support
• Experience with relational and dimensional data modeling
• Experience with application lifecycle methodologies (e.g., agile, iterative)
• Experience in analysis, design and programming
• Experience with appropriate data technology

Responsibilities

• Agile Planning: Works with Product Management to understand customer challenges and design viable solutions
• Advises viable solutions to processes, technology, and interfaces to improve team effectiveness and reduce debt
• Forecasts capacity for component usage and identifies limitations
• Provides input into story sizing, backlog grooming, and release planning
• Product Development: contributes to product and solution design to address issues and complex problems
• Builds software applications across multiple platforms in response to stakeholder needs
• Understands technical architecture and writes software and automated tests aligned with standards
• Application Support: provides ongoing support, monitoring, and maintenance of deployed products
• Advice and Guidance: works with less experienced engineers providing technical guidance and oversight
• Emerging Technology Monitoring: stays up-to-date on new software technologies and shares insights

• Exposure to test automation frameworks and performance tuning in high-volume retail systems.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Advanced knowledge inrequirementsgathering, solution architecture, system design, development, implementation, and post-production support for highly scalable, high-volume retail software.
• Advanced knowledge of SQL with relational databases (e.g.,Oracle 19c, PostgreSQL)
• Payment & Core Retail Engines:Strong engineering background in retail-specific logic, including custom Deal & Promotion engines, loyalty programs, and direct payment integrations (e.g., ACI, Verifone,Worldpay).
• Hands-on development and configurationexpertisein Oracle RetailXstorePOS,Xenvironment, ACI, andRTLoggenerator, with a proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex POS application issues.
• Ability to understand and communicate the business impact of technical issues.
