Qualifications

  • 3 years understanding REST/HTTPS/JSON web services.
  • 5+ years experience with general-purpose languages incl. Java, Python, C/C++, C#, JavaScript or Go.
  • 7+ years experience in IBM Cognos development and 5+ years SQL development.
  • Experience building enterprise reporting solutions in healthcare or regulated industries.
  • Knowledge of Cognos Framework Manager modeling, data warehousing concepts and production reporting support.

Responsibilities

  • Design and create engineering specifications for software applications.
  • Write code adhering to standards and perform code reviews.
  • Contribute to idea generation and implement technical solutions meeting product features.
  • Participate in scrum ceremonies, assist sprint planning and deliver sprints end-to-end.
  • Communicate blockers to the Scrum Master and drive DoD and acceptance criteria.
  • Create tasks for stories in RTC or Jira and track status.
  • Monitor progress against production schedule and report issues to leads.
  • Mentor other associate software engineers as needed.

This job is an integral member of an agile software engineer team responsible for building complex scalable software applications across all digital channels to serve our customers. The position will be responsible for taking an enterprise-wide, architectural view of the solutions and the technical execution of products using the technical stack that best meets the needs of the platform. The position, and team, will be involved in every aspect as part of the software application build process from idea generation, business analysis, technical design and software development using the latest technologies and design patterns.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Designing and creating engineering specifications for software applications and programs.
  • Designing & writing code that adheres to coding standards.
  • Perform code reviews.
  • Idea generation, exploring and implementing appropriate technical solutions to achieve the required product features, as well as monitoring technical process against project plan while safeguarding functionality, scalability and performance.
  • Participation in all scrum ceremonies, assisting in sprint planning and completing required sprints in the development through final execution of software applications/programs.
  • Communicating any issues/blockers to the Scrum Master in a timely manner.
  • Drive story creation (i.e. DoD, Acceptance Criteria, estimation).
  • Creates Tasks for their stories in applicable software (ex: RTC or Jira), and updates status and assignment accordingly.
  • Monitor work against production schedule and provide progress updates and report any issues or technical difficulties to lead developers on a regular basis.
  • Mentor other associate software engineers as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned or requested.
EDUCATION

Required Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Closely Related Field.

Preferred Master's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Related Field.

EXPERIENCE
  • Required: 3 years of Proficiency in design and analysis of algorithms, data structures, and design patterns in the building and deploying of scalable; highly available systems.
  • At least one modern programming languages (Java, Python, JavaScript, ACE, IIB/ITX, Informatica preferred), and experience with at least two of the following: React, Angular v4+, NodeJS, NoSQL databases, HTML5, CSS, Google Cloud Platform or Amazon Web Services.
  • 3 years of Understanding of web services technologies such as REST, HTTPS, JSON.
  • Preferred: 5 years of Experience with one or more general purpose programming languages including but not limited to: Java, Python (Django/Flask), C/C++, C#, Objective C, JavaScript, or Go.
  • 7+ years of experience in IBM Cognos development.
  • 5+ years of complex SQL development experience.
  • Experience building enterprise reporting solutions for healthcare, insurance, banking, financial services, or highly regulated industries.
  • Experience with Cognos Framework Manager modeling and package development.
  • Strong understanding of relational databases and data warehousing concepts.
  • Experience supporting production reporting environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work directly with business stakeholders and translate requirements into reporting solutions.
  • Experience supporting financial, operational, claims, billing, payment, or regulatory reporting.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Experience supporting Cognos migrations and platform upgrades.

  • Demonstrated ability to achieve stretch goals in a highly innovative and fast paced environment.
  • Have experience working with agile methodology of scrum.
  • Interest and ability to learn other programming languages as needed.
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, unit testing, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Strong track record in designing and implementing large scale consumer facing applications.
  • Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive.
  • Demonstrated passion for user experience and improving usability.
  • Experience and willingness to mentor junior engineers and help develop their skills and leadership.

PAY RANGE

Minimum: $86,400.00

Maximum: $138,600.00

Base pay is determined by a variety of factors including a candidate’s qualifications, experience, and expected contributions, as well as internal peer equity, market, and business considerations. The displayed salary range does not reflect any geographic differential. Highmark may apply for certain locations based upon comparative markets.
