The Staff Software Engineer will play a technical leadership role within an Agile product team, designing and building new features and components for a globally deployed cloud-based digital and eCommerce platform. The role will focus on modern software engineering principles, including microservices, event-driven architectures, robust data pipelines, and distributed systems. The engineer will own one or more services, provide technical direction, mentor team members, collaborate with Product Owners to refine and execute the backlog, and ensure excellence across design, development, testing, and operations. The position requires strong hands‑on experience with Java, Kotlin, Spring, Spring Boot, Oracle, PostgreSQL, Kafka, REST services, and data handling.
Key Responsibilities
- Work as part of an Agile development team and take ownership of one or more services.
- Provide technical leadership to the Agile Development team and drive technical designs aligned with business goals.
- Ensure the team maintains high standards across software design, coding, testing, and operations.
- Lead by example by embracing change and fostering a growth and learning culture.
- Mentor team members through code reviews and design reviews.
- Partner with Product Owners to refine the backlog and break down features and epics into executable stories.
- Design and implement robust data pipelines to ingest, process, and store large volumes of data from various sources.
- Develop high-quality software solutions that meet business requirements and customer needs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional and global teams while supporting a flexible work schedule.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and data engineering trends and propose innovative solutions.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
- 8–10+ years of hands‑on software engineering experience.
- Recent hands‑on experience with Java, Kotlin, Oracle, PostgreSQL, data handling, Spring, and Spring Boot.
- Recent experience with Kafka and in‑memory caching.
- Experience with unit testing frameworks.
- Ability to develop technical solutions based on business requirements.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and a customer‑centric mindset.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross‑functional and global teams.
- Excellent communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with microservices, CI/CD, event‑oriented architectures, and distributed systems.
- Experience working with cloud environments such as Google Cloud Platform, Azure, or Amazon Web Services.
- Experience leading product‑oriented engineering development teams.
- Familiarity with SQL, GitHub, GitLab, and other version control systems.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices, Agile/Scrum methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, and the product development lifecycle.
- Familiarity with modern web APIs and full‑stack frameworks.
- Experience with GCP, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Experience with Apache Airflow, Apache Flink, and Google BigQuery.
