The New York Times is looking for a Software Engineer to join the Data Ad Products team as part of our Digital Advertising Mission. The Data Ad Products team contributes to The New York Times Advertising business by applying machine learning and AI and developing audience segmentation and targeting systems. These systems are integrated across The New York Times portfolio (News, Games, Cooking, Audio, Wirecutter, and The Athletic) as part of our powerful First Party Data program.

This role is based in our New York City headquarters, reporting to the Engineering Manager, Data Ad Products.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate reliable, scalable, maintainable, and cost-efficient features within the team’s ad targeting systems on modern cloud platformsApply AI to boost advertising revenue and streamline internal operations
  • Work with data scientists, data analysts, product managers and other professionals within your team and across the organizationContribute to the overall strength of the team by growing your skills and supporting your teammates in their growth
  • Participate in an engineering culture which values diversity, community, learning, and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.

Basic Qualifications

  • 2+ years of full-time software engineering experience using Go or Python
  • 1+ years of experience with system design and architecture
  • Proficiency in building APIs and data pipelines on cloud platforms like AWS or Google Cloud
  • Proficiency in data modeling and working with SQL
  • Experience in collaborative work with platform teams, operations and security teams, and adjacent product teams in an Agile software development environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with data tooling and data warehouses like dbt, Apache Beam, and BigQuery
  • Experience with CI/CD systems, infrastructure provisioning tools like Terraform, and observability tools like Datadog

The annual base pay range for this role is between:

$104,000 - $130,000 USD
