Job summary

Millennium is seeking a software engineer to join the Fixed Income & Commodities IT team, collaborating with portfolio management, risk, and engineering to build scalable trading applications.

You will optimize latency, work with quants and risk managers, and help automate end-of-day processing, data integrity checks, and data loads, while leveraging Kubernetes, ArgoCD, and cloud platforms.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of professional development using Java or C++, with ~1 year in Rust.
• Strong SQL and database experience with DuckDB, Postgres and RDBMS.
• Experience with containerization, Kubernetes and ArgoCD.
• Experience with scaled architectures and backend performance optimization.
• Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science or related field.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills; able to work independently.
• Detail-oriented, organized with ownership of work.
• Preferred: Kafka, Arrow, Parquet, Avro and cloud tech (AWS/GCP).

Meet the Team

Core to the health and growth of Millennium's business, the firm's active, multi-manager model demands flexible, scalable technology and advanced proprietary systems, including the development of the next generation of analytical and trading capabilities. The Fixed Income & Commodities IT team is responsible for the Trading Applications that deliver live risk and profit and loss (P & L) to drive Fixed Income and Commodities trading. Our applications are used by a wide range of users, primarily Portfolio Managers and Risk Managers, as well as trade support functions such as Middle Office and Valuations.

What You'll Do

• Collaborate with portfolio management, risk, and engineering teams on application development, deployment, and architecture
• Work closely with quants, risk managers, and engineers across the globe to develop compute-intensive applications for quantitative modeling that process thousands of datasets
• Optimize the platform using network and systems programming and other advanced techniques to minimize latency
• Automate system maintenance tasks, end-of-day processing jobs, data integrity checks, and bulk data loads and extracts
• Maintain, support, and improve application capabilities as new requirements arise
• Partner with project managers and senior leadership to capture analytic requirements, monitor delivery, and manage expectations
• Deliver timely solutions to portfolio and risk managers within the firm, in keeping with Millennium's active culture.

What You Bring

• 3-5 years of professional development experience using Java or C++, and ideally 1 year of professional experience working with Rust
• Strong SQL and database experience, particularly with DuckDB, Postgres, and RDBMS
• Experience with containerization, ideally Kubernetes and ArgoCD
• Experience with scaled architectures, performance analysis, and optimization of backend systems
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or another scientific field
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
• Detail-oriented and organized, with thoroughness and strong ownership of work
• Preferred: experience with Apache Kafka, Arrow, Parquet, and/or Avro, and with cloud technologies, ideally AWS and/or GCP
