Job summary

Comtec Information Systems in Fall River, MA is seeking a Software Engineer to join our team for a 12-month project. The role focuses on planning and coordinating requirements gathering, design, and development of client information systems and software applications for autonomous maritime vehicles.

The candidate will develop software requirement specifications, perform testing and integration, and contribute to Windows/Linux based development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS or related engineering; minimum 6 years’ experience (or 4 years with graduate degree; 12+ years with no degree).
• 4+ years in software development and/or design.
• 4+ years experience with C#, C++, C.
• Experience in all phases of SDLC.
• Strong knowledge of version control (Git or Visual Studio).
• Experience with multi-threaded programming & design.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will assist in planning and coordinating all activities related to requirements gathering, design, development and implementation of client information systems and software applications. The developer will also be responsible for maintaining, supporting and upgrading existing client systems and applications. The candidate will apply proven communication skills, problem-solving skills and knowledge of best practices to work on issues related to the design, development and deployment of client oriented, mission-critical information and software systems. The candidate will be responsible for software requirement development, software test and integration, application and embedded code with C# and C/C++, Windows/Linux based development for autonomous maritime vehicles

The candidate must be able to clearly communicate both written and orally, and present products and ideas in a business-like manner. Strong interpersonal skills are required due to continual interaction with customers and users with varying technical backgrounds in a fast-paced work environment.

Essential Functions:

• Work with team and develop new autonomous behaviors

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s DegreeComputer Science or related engineering degree and minimum 6years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 12years of prior related experience.
• 4+ years direct experience in software development and/or programming design and systems management.
• 4+ years of experience with C#, C++, C
• Experience in all phases of the software development life-cycle
• Strong understanding of various communications protocols such as TCP/IP, UDP, RS232.
• Highly proficient in C# development
• Strong knowledge of version control (Git or Visual Team Services)
• Experience with multi-threaded programming & design
• Strong ability to grasp and apply new information quickly
• High attention to detail, excellent problem-solving skills, ability to multi-task and enthusiastic attitude

Preferred Additional Skills:

• Experience with Robotic systems
• Experience with autonomous underwater vehicle sensor payloads (such as Doppler velocity logs, Sidescan sonar, Multibeam and Internal navigation systems)
• Experience working within an Agile development environment is highly desirable.
