BankSocial is seeking a Software Engineer to design, build, and maintain backend services and RESTful APIs powering our platform for credit unions and community financial institutions.

You will work across the stack to deliver web and mobile features, integrate with core banking systems, and ensure security and regulatory compliance in a collaborative, hybrid environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in CS/SE or related field.
• 3-5+ years of professional software development experience, fintech/banking experience preferred.
• Proficiency in at least one backend language (TypeScript/Node.js, Python, Java, or Kotlin) and a modern frontend framework (React/React Native).
• REST APIs, SQL, Git, and a major cloud platform (AWS/Azure/GCP) experience.
• Familiarity with core banking, payments, or regulatory requirements is a plus.

• Build responsive web and mobile features with product and design.
• Write maintainable, well-tested UI code and contribute to shared components.

• Apply security, data privacy, and regulatory requirements (NCUA, BSA/AML, PCI DSS).
• Write automated tests, participate in code reviews, and support CI/CD pipelines and production releases.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, compliance, and partner institutions to troubleshoot production issues.
• Leverage AI agentic coding tools to plan, write, test, and refactor code with careful review before production.

The Mission: The Software Engineer supports the BankSocial mission ( Empowering communities and the institutions that support them to transact through shared financial innovation) by building and maintaining the secure, reliable software that lets credit unions, community financial institutions, and their members transact on BankSocial's platform.

The Impact: As part of the Engineering team, the Software Engineer turns product and departmental goals into working software across the stack. The role builds backend services and APIs, delivers web and mobile features, and connects BankSocial's platform to core banking and payment systems, owning features from design through production support.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

Design, build, and maintain backend services and RESTful APIs that power BankSocial's products.

Model data, write efficient queries, and improve the performance and reliability of production services.

Build responsive web and mobile features in collaboration with product and design.

Write maintainable, well-tested UI code and contribute to shared components.

Banking & Core Integrations

Build and maintain integrations with credit union core systems, payment networks, and third-party financial service providers.

Apply security, data privacy, and regulatory requirements (e.g., NCUA, BSA/AML, PCI DSS) to integration and data-handling work.

Quality, Delivery & Collaboration

Write automated tests, take part in code reviews, and support CI/CD pipelines and production releases.

Work with engineering, product, compliance, and partner institutions to troubleshoot and resolve production issues.

Use AI agentic coding tools to plan, write, test, and refactor code, reviewing and validating AI-generated changes before they reach production.

Qualifications & Experience

Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Professional Experience: 3-5+ years of professional software development experience; experience in fintech, banking, credit unions, or financial services preferred.

Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in at least one backend language (e.g., TypeScript/Node.js, Python, Java, or Kotlin) and a modern frontend framework (e.g., React or React Native); experience with REST APIs, relational databases (SQL), Git, and a major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP). Familiarity with core banking systems, payment processing, or NCUA regulations is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Node.js, Python, and Kotlin; hands-on use of AI agentic coding tools and workflows (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot) in day-to-day development; background at a financial institution (bank or credit union) or a similar regulated financial services environment.

Physical & Environmental Demands

Physical Effort: Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time; must be able to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery.

Environment: Hybrid; professional office environment combined with a dedicated remote home office.
