Role Summary:

APGFCU is seeking an innovative and member-focused Software Developer to help build the future of digital banking and digital member-facing solutions. This role will design, develop, integrate, and maintain digital solutions that create seamless, secure, and intuitive experiences across online / mobile banking, digital onboarding, Online Account Opening/Online Loan Portal, payments, and emerging digital channels including cutting-edge fintech solutions. Our goal is to be in the top quartile for member experience of credit unions by consistently offering the right features in an intuitive and easy to use experience, as well as incorporating a human touch when it is right.

The ideal candidate combines strong full-stack development expertise with a passion for user experience, modern fintech integrations, and agile software delivery. This individual will partner closely with Digital Experience, Product Owners, Operations, Lending, Marketing, and third-party vendors to transform business requirements and user stories into scalable digital solutions that improve member engagement, self-service adoption, and operational efficiency. This work will be accomplished through a highly collaborative partnership model, empowering the Developer to serve as a strategic partner who actively shapes solutions that align business objectives with member needs, rather than functioning solely as a recipient of requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Software Development (50%):

    • Application Development & Engineering: Design, develop, prototype, test, deploy, and maintain consumer-facing and business-facing digital banking applications, including responsive web and mobile experiences, scalable backend services, APIs, middleware integrations, and reusable components across digital channels.
    • Digital Banking Platform Support: Create technical solutions that support online banking, mobile banking, account opening, lending, payments, financial wellness, chatbots, self-service, personalization, virtual branch (chat and video), and AI-driven member experiences.
    • Architecture, Scalability, and SDK Solutions: Design solutions with a focus on long-term architecture, scalability, maintainability, and future readiness across digital banking channels. This includes implementing SDK solutions when appropriate and working with APIs and middleware to support secure, flexible integrations. Work closely with IT infrastructure, cloud, and application SMEs to develop solutions in accordance with established best practices and existing standards.
    • API & Integration Development: Design and support RESTful APIs, event-driven integrations, and secure data exchange mechanisms that connect core banking systems, digital banking platforms, loan origination systems, account opening platforms, payment providers, fraud and security systems, CRM solutions, data platforms, and data warehouses. The Developer may also be asked to evaluate the technical aspects of various vendors during evaluations.
    • Security, Compliance & Quality: Follow secure software development lifecycle practices, ensure solutions comply with financial services regulations and internal security standards, leverage secrets management, CI/CD pipelines, automated actions, conduct code reviews, unit testing, load testing, regression testing, and vulnerability remediation. Support audits, penetration testing, and compliance initiatives as required.
  • Digital Innovation & Collaboration (25%):

    • Product & Digital Experience Partnership: Participate in Agile ceremonies and sprint planning, collaborate with Product Owners to transform member needs, create UI/UX mockups, wireframes, research findings, journey maps, and user stories into working digital solutions, and partner with Digital Experience teams to deliver intuitive and accessible member experiences to meet their needs.
    • Technical Recommendations and Digital Innovation: Provide recommendations that balance member experience, scalability, security, and speed-to-market; help evaluate emerging technologies, fintech partnerships, and development frameworks; and identify opportunities to automate processes and improve digital self-service capabilities. These recommendations can also be member-facing.
  • Operational Support & Documentation (25%):

    • Operational Support: Bring strong DevOps understanding, participate in troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for production issues, support system upgrades, platform releases, and vendor enhancements, monitor application health, performance metrics, and usage analytics. Support responsibilities also include troubleshooting incidents.
    • Maintain Technical Documentation: Maintain current technical documentation of all developed solutions and follow implementation standards using SDLC-driven best practices. Utilize centralized source code repositories, knowledgebases, YAML files, design documentation, effective version control techniques, and other practices to ensure documentation is kept current through all phases of software delivery.
  • Physical Demands: Most of your time will be spent working at a computer, collaborating in meetings, and connecting with colleagues and stakeholders. Occasionally, you may move between workspaces, travel for business,. We’re committed to providing reasonable accommodation to support employees in performing the essential responsibilities of the role.

Typical Day in the Role :

  • Develop Digital Banking Solutions: Build and enhance front-end, back-end, API, SDK, and middleware components that support online banking, mobile banking, account opening, lending, payments, and self-service experiences.
  • Collaborate in Agile Delivery: Participate in sprint planning, standups, backlog refinement, and delivery discussions with Product Owners, Digital Experience, UX, Operations, Lending, Marketing, IT, and vendor partners.
  • Translate Member Needs into Solutions: Review user stories, business requirements, journey maps, and research findings, then turn them into scalable technical solutions that reduce friction and improve member engagement.
  • Support Integrations and Vendor Implementations: Work with third-party providers and internal teams to support SDK, API, and middleware implementations across digital banking, payments, fraud, security, CRM, and data platforms.
  • Test, Review, and Improve Quality: Conduct code reviews, unit testing, regression testing, performance validation, accessibility review, and vulnerability remediation to maintain secure and reliable digital experiences.
  • Troubleshoot and Support Production: Investigate production issues, complete root-cause analysis, monitor application health and usage analytics, and support platform releases, system upgrades, and vendor enhancements.
  • Document and Future-Proof Solutions: Maintain technical documentation, implementation standards, and reusable development patterns that support long-term scalability, maintainability, and digital banking innovation.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field preferred; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Experience: 5+ years of full-stack software development experience, including 3+ years developing customer-facing web or mobile applications. Experience within financial services, banking, fintech, or regulated industries is preferred.
  • Agile and SDK Experience: Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments and working with SDKs. SDK experience with top digital banking providers such as Q2, Lumin, or Alkami is a plus.
  • Front-End Technologies: JavaScript/TypeScript; React, Angular, or Vue.js; HTML5; CSS3; SCSS; responsive and mobile-first design principles.
  • Back-End Technologies: C#; .NET/ASP.NET Core; Node.js preferred; microservices architecture.
  • Integration and Data: REST APIs; GraphQL preferred; JSON; XML; OAuth; SAML; OpenID Connect; SQL Server; PostgreSQL; cloud-based integrations. Experience in an environment with a large volume of vendor integrations.
  • DevOps
