PowerSchool invites applications for a Software Engineer Research and Development in Dallas, TX. You will join the R&D team delivering full-stack features and tooling for our cloud-based K-12 software platform.

The role emphasizes collaborating with product, code reviews, and delivering high-quality code with AI-assisted development. On-call responsibilities apply to after-hours work.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of relevant and related work experience.
• Professional experience with functional programming (Elixir, Erlang, Scala, F#, etc..) or modern statically typed languages (Rust, Go, Zig, etc..) developing web applications
• Experience with PostgreSQL profiling and optimization in production environments
• Comfortable working in a Full-Stack environment where work may involve CSS/JS, Backend Code, and occasional DevOps & Monitoring tasks
• Familiarity with self-directed Agentic Development

• Understand all ongoing work across teams well enough to intelliigently take part in code reviews per day

Team Overview

Our Research & Development (R&D) team is the technical talent at the heart of our product suite, overseeing the product development lifecycle from concept to delivery. From engineering to quality assurance to data science, the R&D team ensures our customers seamlessly use our products and can depend on their consistency.

Responsibilities

The Software Engineering team is a group of full stack developers who design, develop, and maintain our products, tools, and infrastructure. Your day-to-day job will consist of:

• Working with Product to translate product requirements into discrete, testable tasks

Minimum Qualifications

• This position is subject to company on call policies which constitutes working hours outside of the normal workday as needed.
• Professional experience with functional programming (Elixir, Erlang, Scala, F#, etc..) or modern statically typed languages (Rust, Go, Zig, etc..) developing web applications
• Experience with PostgreSQL profiling and optimization in production environmentsComfortable working in a Full-Stack environment where work may involve CSS/JS, Backend Code, and occasional DevOps & Monitoring tasks
• Familiarity with self-directed Agentic Development

Preferred Qualifications

• Elxir / Phoenix LiveView experience
• Familiarity with A11Y standards and tooling

A reasonable estimate of the base compensation range for this position is $56,100 - $111,800 USD. This compensation range is specific to the United States and it incorporates many factors including but not limited to an applicant's skills and prior relevant experience and training; licensures, degrees, and certifications; internal equity; internal pay ranges; and market data/range parameters.
