ShipStation Global is seeking a Software Engineer (Java) to build and maintain Java microservices in a Spring Boot AWS environment. You will collaborate with frontend teams building Angular and React apps, and participate in the full SDLC with CI/CD pipelines.

The role emphasizes strong Java skills, relational databases, and cloud deployment practices. You will implement async messaging, REST services, and data persistence, while supporting production systems with observability tools like

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field.
• 1–3+ years of Java development in a Spring Boot environment.
• Experience deploying apps on AWS and with REST/JSON services.
• Background in multi-threaded Java applications and relational DBs.

ShipStation Global is building a next generation cloud native platform serving customers and internal users. The Software Engineer (Java) is responsible for building and maintaining Java microservices and event-driven backend applications that support our business needs, working in a modern Spring Boot environment on AWS, and collaborating closely with front-end teams building Angular and React applications.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Java applications and microservices in development, test, and production environments.
• Adhere to coding and design guidelines used throughout our applications.
• Collaborate with the architecture team to define the development toolset.
• Assist in the organization's code review process.
• Assist in the development of technical requirements for Agile development teams.
• Develop updates, corrections, and enhancements, including business logic in Java and SQL.
• Integrate with internal and external systems using iPaaS, REST APIs, web services, EDI, XML, SQL, and asynchronous messaging (e.g., SQS, SNS, Kinesis, RabbitMQ).
• Work with DevOps teams to facilitate deployment of containerized code artifacts (Docker/Kubernetes) to AWS cloud environments.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and support production systems using observability tooling (e.g., Datadog).
• Responsible for data security and web site intrusion defenses of Java applications.
• Support the overall SDLC process including continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) using Jenkins and GitHub Pipelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or relevant field.
• 1-3 or more years of development experience using Java in a modern Spring Boot (3.x), Java 17+ microservices environment.
• Experience developing and deploying applications on AWS.
• Background in creating multi-threaded Java applications.
• Experience with JDBC and relational databases such as MySQL and PostgreSQL, and familiarity with search technologies such as Elasticsearch.
• Experience with JPA and Hibernate, MyBatis, or similar persistence frameworks.
• Experience with Spring-based REST services.
• Experience creating applications with RESTful APIs/JSON, microservices, or service-oriented architecture.
• Experience with asynchronous messaging and event-driven architectures (e.g., SQS, SNS, Kinesis, RabbitMQ).
• Experience writing unit and integration tests (e.g., JUnit, Mockito) and familiarity with test-driven development.
• Familiarity with containerized deployments using Docker and Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with observability and monitoring tooling (e.g., Datadog, metrics, distributed tracing).
• Experience developing enterprise software through several complete development lifecycles.
• Experience configuring CI/CD systems such as Jenkins or GitHub Pipelines.
• Functional knowledge of Java-based IDEs and development tools.
• (Preferred) Exposure to TypeScript single-page applications (Angular or React) and micro-frontend architecture.
• Excellent troubleshooting skills.
