Job summary

Amentum is seeking a Software Engineer to join our NSWC Dahlgren Division efforts, delivering advanced undersea warfare software for USW projects. This role requires a bachelor’s in engineering or CS, 5+ years in software development, and proficiency in C/C++, Java, or Ada, with UNIX/Linux experience and an active SECRET clearance.

Onsite at NSWC Dahlgren, you will collaborate with a skilled team to design, implement, test, and maintain mission-critical software, utilizing NetBeans, VxWorks,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science or technical field.
  • 5+ years in software development including analysis, design, testing and maintenance.
  • Proficiency in C/C++, Java or Ada.
  • Knowledge of RedHat/UNIX/Linux tools and utilities.
  • U.S. Citizenship with Active SECRET clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with development team in an agile environment to build FMS Fire Control systems.
  • Create, refine, and maintain software solutions for undersea warfare tech.
  • Provide project status insights in weekly leadership meetings.
  • Address challenges proactively with leadership across on-site NSWC Dahlgren.

We are seeking a dedicated and results-oriented Software Engineer to join our high-performing team supporting Undersea Warfare (USW) software development projects for Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Dahlgren Division, H20. What You’ll Do

As a Software Engineer, you’ll work at the forefront of advanced undersea warfare technology, contributing to mission-critical systems that shape the future of defense.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with a talented development team: Work in a tight-knit, agile environment to develop solutions for Foreign Military Sales (FMS) Fire Control Systems.
  • Creating and refining code: Use your technical expertise to design, improve, and maintain cutting-edge software systems.
  • Providing valuable project insights: Attend weekly meetings with leadership to provide status reports and ensure timely progress.
  • Problem-solving and proactive communication: Identify potential challenges and opportunities early and collaborate with leadership to address them effectively.
  • Onsite teamwork: Be part of a dynamic environment onsite at NSWC Dahlgren, where innovation is at the heart of everything we do.
What You Bring to the Table

We’re looking for a strong technical professional who meets these minimum qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or another technical discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • 5+ years of experience in software development, including analysis, design, testing, and maintenance.
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following high-level programming languages: C/C++, Java, or Ada.
  • Knowledge of the RedHat operating system and experience with UNIX/Linux tools and utilities.
  • Experience with track modeling, time algorithms, and implementing inter-process communications using TCP/IP sockets.
  • U.S. Citizenship with an Active SECRET U.S. Government Clearance (required).

  • Experience designing, developing, and documenting computer programs for surface ship-related systems*using high-order languages across a range of systems.
  • Expertise in designing simulation systems, situational awareness systems, or systems that interface with tactical systems.
  • Ability to collaborate in fast-paced, team-based environments to deliver high-quality technical solutions.
  • Experience working with Agile development methodologies in dynamic, multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Proficiency in developing software in multi-threaded/multi-process environments with demonstrated success in implementation.
  • Experience with:
  • Unified Modeling Language (UML) for designing and documenting complex object-oriented systems.
  • Testing software in diverse hardware configurations.
  • Using tools and frameworks, including NetBeans IDE, VxWorks, CORBA, Extensible Markup Language (XML), and HTML for system documentation.
  • Programming hardware drivers and firmware.
  • Using the Generic Data Extraction Analysis and Reduction (GeDEAR) framework.

Compensation Details

$120K to $140K
