Job summary

MKS Inc. is seeking a Software Test Engineer in Rochester, NY to partner with engineering, IT, and operations to build highly automated test systems and supporting backend infrastructure.

You will report to the Operations Software Team Lead and contribute to a range of desktop and web-based tools. Candidates should have a BS in Engineering and at least 2 years of relevant experience, with strong .NET and Python programming skills, plus familiarity with REST and WebSockets.

Qualifications

• 2 years of job-related work experience.
• Ability to program clean object-oriented code in a .NET-based language.
• Ability to program clean object-oriented code using Python.
• Understanding of networking and the latest web development technologies (REST, WebSockets).

Responsibilities

• Develop desktop and web-based software for new/existing applications, utilities, and backend systems.
• Take a systems-based approach to designing new test systems.
• Coordinate with test and design engineers on the requirements for test systems.
• Analyze schematics to ensure test systems appropriately stress important parts of each product’s functionality.

Job description

A Day in Your Life at MKS:

As a Software Test Engineer at Power Solutions, you will partner with engineering, IT, and operations to develop highly-automated test systems and the backend systems to support them. In this role, you will report to the Operations Software Team Lead.

You Will Make an Impact By:

• Develop desktop and web-based software for new/existing applications, utilities, and backend systems
• Take a systems-based approach to designing new test systems
• Coordinate with test and design engineers on the requirements for test systems
• Analyze schematics to ensure test systems appropriately stress important parts of each product’s functionality
• Travel Requirements: At most, up to 5% of Travel is required. Average amount of travel time has been less than one week per year.

Skills You Bring:

• BS in Engineering field (Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering)
• 2 years of job-related work experience
• Ability to program clean object-oriented code in a .NET-based language
• Ability to program clean object-oriented code using Python
• Understanding of networking and the latest web development technologies (e.g. REST, WebSockets)
• Ability to work with an international team – both inside and outside of the company

Preferred Skills:

• Ability to analyze an electrical schematic and understand nature of designed circuits
• Experience working with AC, high-voltage, and RF circuitry
• Experience designing high-level automation including robotics, machine vision systems, and use of industrial fieldbuses

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

• Time is equally split working in an office- and lab-based environment
• Ability to lift at least 25 pounds on a daily basis

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary Pay Range: $71,025.00 - 118,375.00 USD per year. This range is a good faith estimate of the expected salary range for this position, based on a wide range of factors including qualifications, experience and training, operational and business needs and other considerations permitted by law. At MKS, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role.

Bonus: This position is eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, in an amount to be determined by MKS [or as applicable].
