Job summary

Motion Recruitment Partners is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to join a growing R&D team in Cedar Rapids, IA. The role focuses on AI-enabled defense software, cloud services, and collaboration with business stakeholders in a startup-style environment.

The engineer will mentor junior developers, drive the development of AI-powered tools for safety-critical applications, and work onsite Monday through Friday. This is a 1-year W2 contract with benefits.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience across cloud, AI, and DevOps domains.
• Experience mentoring junior developers and engineers.
• Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, validate, and deploy AI-enabled software, services, and products.
• Build cloud-based applications, backend services, APIs, and integrations leveraging data and analytics for rapid iteration.
• Advance product development by integrating avionics technologies with AI/ML, LLM, and NLP tooling.
• Collaborate with Agile teams in Product & Engineering, providing guidance across multiple sub-projects.
• Improve scalability, reliability, security, and maintainability of next-generation systems.

Our client, a leader in aerospace & defense, is looking to hire a Lead Software Engineer. This team operates in a startup-style environment, working onsite Monday – Friday in Cedar Rapids, IA to drive collaboration and engagement with business stakeholders!

As a Lead Software Engineer, you will join a growing R&D software development team engineering the next generation of AI-powered tools for safety-critical defense applications. This team is looking for candidates who have first-hand experience creating AI-enabled solutions in their professional and/or personal work.

What You'll Be Doing

• Design, develop, validate, and deploy AI-enabled software, services, and products
• Build cloud-based applications, backend services, APIs, and integrations, leveraging data & analytics to drive rapid iterative software development
• Advance new product development by uncovering opportunities to integrate emerging avionics technologies with AI/ML, LLM, and NLP features/tooling
• Collaborate with Agile teams in Product & Engineering, providing guidance & mentorship across multiple software development sub-projects & teams
• Drive improvements to new product scalability, reliability, security, and maintainability of next-generation systems

Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of experience in Software Engineering, Cloud Engineering, DevOps, AI Engineering, with recent experience mentoring junior developers & engineers
• Proficiency coding in Python, Go/GoLang, Java, C#, TypeScript and/or other Object-Oriented (OOP) languages from scratch
• Demonstrated personal and/or professional experience applying LLMs, Generative AI, RAG, MLOps, and/or NLP tooling to develop software solutions
• Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis

Desired Skills & Experience

• Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or relevant field
• Experience working with Docker, Kubernetes, AWS/Azure Cloud platforms, cloud architecture, CI/CD pipelines, and/or IaaC
• Prior experience or interest in the aerospace, automotive, defense, or aviation industries highly valued!
