Job summary

Elwood Roberts - Your Trusted Recruitment Partner is seeking an experienced embedded Software Engineer for mission-critical national security systems at Camden Waterfront Campus, NJ. You will develop device drivers, BSPs, and bootloaders, and work across the software life cycle with hardware bring-up and debugging.

Requirements include US citizenship with an active DoD Secret clearance, a degree in Computer/Electrical Engineering or CS, and 8+ years in embedded software, including Linux, RTOS,

Qualifications

• U.S. citizenship with an Active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance.
• Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science etc.
• Ideally 8+ years experience in software development.
• Ideally 5+ years developing and debugging drivers, BSPs, bootloaders, bare-metal or low-level embedded apps.
• Experience with C/C++, assembly, and/or Rust in embedded systems.
• Experience developing embedded Linux systems.
• Proven experience with device drivers and BSPs for RTOSs (Integrity, VxWorks, Zephyr, seL4, Yocto).
• Experience with hardware bring-up on prototype/first-run hardware.

Responsibilities

• Develop device drivers and BSPs for custom embedded systems.
• Diagnose and debug complex hardware-software boundary issues.
• Develop software to test manufactured circuit boards and diagnose issues.
• Participate in peer reviews, track and repair defects.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate interfaces between hardware and software.
• Support all phases of the software development life cycle, including hardware-software integration and testing.
• Investigate root causes of complex issues and implement solutions.
• Develop software test plans and related technical documentation.

Location: Camden Waterfront Campus, New Jersey, NY.

Security Clearance: Required and active (U.S. citizenship required).

Salary Range: $100,000 - $175,000

We are looking for a talented and experienced embedded Software Engineer to guide the next generation of mission-critical national security systems. You will have a strong background in modern computer architecture, hardware bring-up and debugging, development of low-level embedded system-software including custom drivers, board support packages, and bootloader.

What you will do and be responsible for:

• Develop device drivers and board support packages for custom embedded systems
• Diagnosis and debugging of complex hardware-software boundary issues
• Develop software to test manufactured circuit boards and diagnose manufacturing or design issues
• Participate in peer reviews, identify, track and repair defects
• Work closely with cross functional members of the engineering organization to develop and evaluate interfaces between hardware and software, operational performance, and design of the overall system
• Support and participate in all phases of the software development life cycle, including requirements analysis, design, implementation, hardware-software integration, and formal test
• Investigate root causes of complex issues, and implement solutions, working independently or with a multi-discipline team
• Develop software test plans and procedures, and other relevant technical documentation

We are looking for people with the below experience:

• U.S. citizenship with an Active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance
• Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science etc
• Ideally over 8 years experience in software development
• Ideally over 5+ years of experience developing and debugging drivers, BSPs, bootloaders, bare-metal applications, or other low-level development in embedded systems
• Experience with development of embedded systems in C\C++, assembly, and\or Rust
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Experience developing embedded Linux systems
• Proven experience developing device drivers and board support packages for modern RTOSs (Integrity, VxWorks, Zepher, seL4, Yocto)
• Proven experience with hardware bring-up on prototype or first-run hardware
• Experience building and customizing Yocto/OE or buildroot based Linux distributions, deep knowledge of BitBake, device trees, and the Linux Kernel ideal, but not required.
• Strong understanding of standard interface protocols such as UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, AXI, PCI/PCIe
