Overview

Boston Globe Media is seeking a software engineer for its Business Systems Team. The candidate will work with a team of software engineers who support various business initiatives, including the CMS systems that power BostonGlobe.com & Boston.com, the ecommerce systems that support the sites, and subscription management systems. This team is responsible for facilitating the data flow between business-critical systems and applications.

Responsibilities

You will work closely with other members of the team, as well as our Product and Project teams, and other departmental engineering teams on various projects as they arise. You will be both an individual and team contributor. You’ll work on projects that maintain, update, and improve our existing business systems applications and workflows. Familiarize yourself with our tech stack and keep up to date with industry best practices and improvements.

Qualifications

• 5+ years working with Node.js, Java, and other back-end frameworks
• Experience with various databases MySQL, MS SQL, Snowflake, MariaDB, or PostgreSQL
• Experience building REST APIs to push/receive data
• Knowledge of server-side scripting languages such as JSP, PHP, or Groovy
• Knowledge of shell scripting, such as Bash or Python
• Knowledge of version control systems such as Git, SVN
• Knowledge of CI tools such as Jenkins and Docker
• Familiarity with the agile methodology of software development
• Experience with software development tools such as Jira
• Strong analytical and communication skills in a hybrid work environment
• A willingness to adapt and be audience-focused, with a curious mindset and a commitment to creating an inclusive work environment

Bonus Points

• Knowledge of React and/or similar JS frameworks
• Familiarity with .NET, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Progress, Perl, Powershell, Passenger

Location and Salary

The BGMP office is located in downtown Boston, near Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market, and is easily accessible by MBTA and commuter rail lines. This position is based in Boston, and candidates should be based in the area or willing to move.

The annual salary for this role is $83,000 - $120,000.
