Our client is revolutionizing sample preparation for mass spectrometry through their microfluidic platform, enabling rapid, on-demand sample cleanup and analysis. Their flagship product simplifies traditionally complex workflows, empowering broader access to mass spectrometry across research and industry.

Position Summary:

We are looking for a self-motivated Software Engineer to lead development and support of the software systems powering our core product. This role will be central to integrating software with hardware, developing robust user interfaces, and ensuring a seamless user experience. You’ll work closely with hardware and applications teams to deploy and support the first commercial units.

This is a unique opportunity to own the entire software stack of a market-ready product and shape future platforms in a high-growth, interdisciplinary environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Immediate / Short-Term (First 60–90 Days):

• Collaborate with engineering and applications teams to understand current systems: firmware, software, and hardware.
• Develop robust control systems with effective state management and error handling.
• Design and build intuitive user interfaces connected to Python and/or other backend services.
• Implement internal analytics, logging, testing, and visualization tools to improve reliability and performance.
• Establish both local and networked database logging solutions.

Long-Term (6–12 Months and Beyond):

• Document system architecture, APIs, and application code for internal and external use.
• Integrate hardware components (e.g., sensors, motors, pumps, valves) into production systems.
• Collaborate on custom PCB integration and electrical system design.
• Drive improvements to existing systems, including sensor upgrades and firmware enhancements.
• Lead software efforts for new product development from concept through commercialization.
• Design and implement secure OTA update mechanisms for remote system management and data logging.

Required Qualifications:

• Proven experience with Pythonfor control systems, prototyping, and integration.
• Hands-on experience with UI development, especially integrating interfaces with hardware or embedded applications.
• Strong understanding of hardware/software integration, including breadboarding and prototyping.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and thrive in a fast-paced startup environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with microcontrollers, embedded systems, or firmware development.
• Familiarity with scientific instrumentation or biotech/medtech hardware.
• Previous work with OTA update mechanisms, secure device communication, or networked data logging.
• Experience in early-stage startups or highly interdisciplinary technical teams.
