Job summary

Amazon Optics is seeking a Software Development Manager to build and manage services used by AWS and Amazon employees to secure sites worldwide. You’ll own architecture, lead delivery, and champion reliable security tooling that protects every Amazon location and preserves user trust.

You’ll work with collaborators across product, security, and IT, guiding a growing team through complex, multi-tier systems while emphasizing ownership, empathy, and a customer-first mindset.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of engineering team management experience.
• 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience.
• 3+ years designing or architecting scalable multi-tier systems.
• 8+ years leading the definition and development of multi tier web services.
• Knowledge of full SDLC, livesite operations, and code reviews.
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams.

Responsibilities

• Accountable for the team’s structure, software, and strategic direction.
• Partner with engineers on your team by delegating oversight of components and operations.
• Lead with empathy to create a sustainable workload and meet business goals.
• Build a self-sufficient team and apply technical judgment to improve outcomes for customers.
• Independently own software architecture or product with considerable business impact.
• Work backwards from the customer to define the vision and how the product will resolve it.
• Tackle complex problems and mitigate risks before they block progress.
• Provide the team with necessary support for end-to-end systems.
